Recovery/ rest time after CVS?

Hi- For those of you did the CVS, how long did you rest afterwards? My DH is taking the day off to watch our 2 yr old, but he has to leave for a work trip in the evening and then I'll be on my own with my son all the next day and night. My CVS is scheduled at 10:30 tomorrow morning. Think I'll be ok by the time I'm on my own with DS? I'm a little nervous about it because my OB said I might want to have some childcare available to me on the day after the test, too... but, unfortunately, that's just not possible. Think I'll be ok?

  • I was told 48 hours and I did that.  You can't have a friend help you with your DD?  I would certainly help a friend in a pinch like this.  I have also hired someone to help me for a day with mine when I have a had proceedures for a chronic condition that take a day to get over.

  • Hi,

I had a CVS two weeks ago, and honestly, I really felt the need to rest and relax for a couple of days. I didn't have any bleeding or cramping, but I listened to my body, and it was telling me not to push it. If you can get a little extra help, I would do it.

  • I took about 36 hours without lifting my 2 year old daughter. My husband took the day off with me after my procedure and I had the next day off already scheduled. My DD went to daycare as usual and my husband did the drop off and pickup. I felt like the 48 hours really helped keep the cramping and bleeding to a bare minimum.

  • I would highly suggest trying to get some help if at all possible. I was told bed rest for the first 48 hours as this greatly reduces any chance of complications, also no lifting anything over 5 lbs. You are also emotionally drained, it's just kind of a scary thing to go through.

I ended up having on/off bleeding for two weeks (everything turned out fine) but it was scary. I went in for three follow up ultrasounds.

Don't push it, you really need to get help.

  • We had our test done at 10:30 am and the doctor said I should go home and rest for the remainder of the day and that it was OK to go back to work the next day.  She told DH to "treat her like a princess today" and he did!  Even my parents came over and made us all dinner.  So a relatively stressful morning turned into a nice relaxing evening.
  • I had cvs on friday morning, stayed in bed friday afternoon & I think all day saturday as well.  Try to set it up so you can relax on the day after.  I rented a lot of DVDs and read books & sought out any distraction to keep my mind occupied, too.  Funny movies were the best.
