3rd Trimester

35 wks PG and need to find a new doc!!!

I'm so upset! I got the call from my OB's office that they wanted to reschedule my appt. She said they had several other docs that would be on duty for my Thursday appointment. I said that I'd be happy to do another day so I can see my OB. That's when they dropped the bomb.. she's leaving for good!!! What's even worse is that she will not be beginning her new practice until the end of September which is long after my due date. I'm soooooooooo sad! My incredible doc is leaving her practice :(  She's been absolutely amazing and got me through my mc. We've been through a lot together and I don't blame her at all for wanting to leave the practice. The other docs are not friendly at all. I just don't feel comfortable with any of the other other docs and now I need to find a great doc that I feel comfortable with that is accepting new patients who are 35 wks along... SIGH!

  • That really sucks! Good luck!
  • Have you tried getting in contact with your Dr to see if she can still deliver your baby at the hospital?? I have heard of this happening before and the Dr still had all the rights at the hospital and had no issue giving her home number for the mom to call when she was in labor..might be worth asking! GL!

I switched at around 34 weeks, so it isn't impossible - just hard to do. Several practices I phoned indicated that they do not take patients after a certain week (if I recall, it was 28 for several). I was lucky to find a small practice with a midwife who accepted my case on top of all the other established cases she has for the month of August. Transferring records was a hassle - the new practice still doesn't have them (I'm at 39 weeks now). Unless you have concerns regarding competence of the other OBs in the group, I'd try to stick with the group you're in to avoid all of the craziness I describe above. I switched for a pretty good reason (beyond simply not liking the other OBs).
  • I was in the same situation too, except it was me that moved further away from my Dr. I had to reschedule my appt. the first time because my Dr. was on vacation. So, i was happy to go to the same office and go with a nurse practictioner. Then, found out that my Dr. was booked when it was time for my weekly appointments. Then i moved further away and had to find another Dr. closer to where i live now. But, it wasn't easy at first. I had to reschedule like 2 more times until i was finally seen. (3 weeks later) I am now at 39 weeks. I am happy with my switch but sad to let my Dr. go too. I was going to see him for the past 10yrs! Well, good luck to you.
