  • I love those pregnancy parking spots.  I am guilty of using them while TTC since technically I could have been pregnant.  Embarrassed

  • I can't stand them.  I guess I'm just not lazy or feeling entitled enough to use them.
  • I LOOVEEE THOSE! lol & I wish they had them EVERYWHERE!

But i like having EVERYTHING done for me! Okay Mostly everything! & When i ask for food i just get it. =) LOVELY!

  • I wont use those until I get much bigger, like around 30 weeks.  But our BRU spots are just as far away as the normal spots so I really dont get it.

  • Rather than the parking spot I really could have used someone to actually drive my car for me in 1st tri when I was so dead tired!

I don't use the parking spots because I figure the exercise is better for me.

I love being pregnant but I don't think it makes me super special or anything. I'm very independent so sometimes I have to remember to let DH lift heavy things and stuff like that.

We'll see how I feel later on when I get HUGE! lol

haha thats awesome. I wouldnt doubt it though if other women did as well even if they werent pregnant.

This! I think I would get annoyed if I saw someone my size parking in that spot when I'm still very capable of walking a few extra feet...

  • I don't use them...except at BRU because there's like 1000 of them.  I feel like they're for those who are "ready to pop" pregnant.

i know what you mean not using them when you dont show or unless you need them. Im a high risk and am anemic i found out. so Im always exhosted and should do limited amount of activity for the whole preg. But still i feel very awkward using the spot unless i show n such. but none the less the acess and availibility of the spot makes it sooo nice and convienent.

  • I used one ONCE, in the middle of a blizzard. And DH was driving, and parked there so I wouldn't have to walk across the icy parking lot.

But, I live in DC, where no one cares if you are pregnant, and 45yo men park in those spots w/o a second thought. The only time I really want them is in my apartment complex lol. Ever tried to carry groceries and a 3yo across a crowded lot, then up 9 stories? Not exactly convenient...

I only use them when I am bigger and it gets harder to walk.

  • I'm not a big fan of them. I appreciate that the store is providing them, but honestly I would rather walk the few extra feet. Personally I need the special parking more with my 4 year old and a few bags full then I do when I am by myself and pregnant! I would like to see more "Parking for those with small children"!
  • Those parking spots may be the stupidest things ever. They should make them into additional handicap spots. There are never enough of those around here. Pregnant women are capable of walking a few extra feet
  • I feel like I live under a rock, I have never seen these parking spots! Not even at our BRU!

  • Funny, I haven't noticed them at BRU!  But I've only been 2 or 3 times since getting pregnant this time.

I much prefer the NEW MOM spots.  Carrying that kiddo in the infant seat along with a diaper bag and a toddler in tow is going to be crazy.

  • Even though I am very visibly pregnant....I don't use those spots.  I feel insanely lazy, I'm pregnant not handicapped.  Plus I park far away to keep my car from getting dinged anyway.
  • I can't bring myself to use them.  I don't mind walking.  Maybe if I was high risk or much much bigger.

thats one of my concerns after my little guy comes. Carrying that car seat and my daughter is going to be killer. especially if I add purchases i make into the mix.

Especially in the beginning, wearing your baby while you are out and about can be very helpful, if you need your hands free at all.

and one good thing could come from that, getting back to pre-pregnancy weight!

  • ors here say "expecting or parents with small children".those are great when you are wrangling those heavy carseats.I walk if its just me.
  • LOL! I've been in a wheelchair for 5+ years but never bothered to get a handicap permit - I think they are overly abused... I figure if I can roll the distance of a parking lot, why would I take a spot from someone who struggles with a cane/walker/cardiac issues/pulmonary issues etc...

I did however grab one of these expecting/family spots at IKEA cuz I was so tired I couldn't roll the whole garage (bigger then a grocery store or target lot).   Stick out tongue

I agree with the handicap parking. they do seemed to be abused.... Im so jealous you have an ikea. they are awseome and insanely huge!

  • I never even bother parking close to any store. I HATE waiting for the stupid people that hold up traffic waiting for a spot right up front, I just go to the back and park, usually I'm in the store before those people anyway. And I can always use the extra little exercise.
  • I've only used them when it was super icy out b/c I'm afraid of slipping.  Otherwise I like to get in all the walking I can.

  • I always park far away from the doors because: A) I don't like other cars close to my car ... I hate door dings and people who park like morons... and B) I enjoy the extra excersize, even though it isn't much.

Even when I'm waddling, I'll still park far away.

  • Hells no, I hate those spots. Like PP said, they take up space that could be used for handicapped drivers, like my dad. I actually saw a guy use one of those spots today. His wife was pregnant, but she stayed in the car! Wtf??
  • I haven't used them yet, because I'm still so early in my pregnancy and really need the exercise - but I think it is considerate of stores to honor pregnant women in this way. However, I've often thought that it would be better if the spots were marked like a PP said "Expectant Mothers, or those with small children". I can't tell you how many times I've seen mothers trying to get two or three of her children in a store - in the rain - and felt bad for her that she had to park so far away.

I was in the doctors waiting room last month and some (jumbonormous) lady was sitting with her husband and the accessible parking forms trying to justify why she needed it for her IBS - because if she had to take a crap she can get there faster. WTF? but then proceeded to tell him how she could get parking right out front of their favorite north end  restaurants without paying for parking garages. seriously. i wanted to run her over to make her legitimately disabled if she was gunna take the spot. Confused

almost as bad as 2 (huge) girls and their ugly mutt trying to get into the MBTA elevator with me but they were so fat the door couldn't close.  the elevator service guy was there and saw it and yelled at them since hes sick of repairing elevators cuz of stupid people. they refused to move so  told them to get off so I could. I got off (in the wheelchair) and let them ride. then they started threatening to kill him. they claimed they had a right to use it because they had mental disability. (no, duh!?!)  Confused

    I hope you're kidding. That's pure laziness.

I never used them, not once. Pregnancy is not a disability and if you can't walk your ass 50 feet to the store, you shouldn't be out. I would love to see more "parents with a baby" parking spaces...my 9 months pregnant butt could get into a store 1000000000x easier than with a newborn!

  • I love those spots!  I think they are fabulous!  They have them at my clinic, and at the BX/Commisary!  I get really really angry though when I see men get out the cars that park there & do not have a female with them!

I try not to be judgemental about the women that park there because you really don't know what they are going through (pain-wise) just by looking at them.  I, for instance, am constantly told that I am "not that big" or "don't really look pregnant (just fat)", but let me tell you - I have been in pain since Day 1!!  Thank God for those close up parking spots that keep me from dropping to me knees in a dirty parking lot because it hurts too bad!  Yes, I know that if I am in that much pain I shouldn't be out shopping anyways, but I haven't been put on Bedrest yet, so I try to get out & do things for myself.  We still use those spots when my DH drives because he knows I need to get in & get out quickly without a lot of hassel.

I was thinking of the same type of people when  you mentioned the handicap spots.like you mentioned, there are people who have conditions and need availibilty and easy acess to places more so then others who self inflict themselfs with issues. And if i was the doctor of the women you mentioned with the forms I would be tearing her a new one. Its like, seriously? is it so you can put less exercise in your day and eat more food that put you into the cituation that youre in? There are deffinitly bright people in the world.

im sorry to read youre in so much pain. its nice like you mentioned to have those spots also. Im anemic (which makes you feel tired all of the time) and a high risk. Dealing with that and my almost 2 year old makes me feel like a ran a marathon.
