DS is decently tall (probably about 39 inches now) and pretty coordinated. I am debating skipping a tricycle and moving on to a small bike with training wheels (he actually has a tricycle now, a hand me down that he doesn't use all that much). If he is able to get a regular bike sometime in the next year I am going to skip the tricycle, otherwise I will buy him a new/better trike.
What do you think? Is it nutty to think a 3.5 year old can do a small bike?
Re: How old for small bicycle w/ training wheels?
I would think that your sond should be fine to start riding a bike with training wheels at that age. My son will be 4 in june and has been riding a bike with training wheels since he was about 2 1/2. This past weekend we actually took the training wheels off(he asked us to) and he now rides with out the training wheels.
Defnitely not too young.
DD has been good with a trike for a year & a half or so - she'll be 4 in April and we're getting her a real bike w/training wheels.
I'd think if a kid can do a tricycle, bike w/training wheels would be the same.
That is the perfect age. My son is 3 and he got a bike with training wheels for Christmas - so did most of his friends. He does great on it - rides fine by himself, can turn around on it. Go for it!
