Poll: When you hear Aaron/Erin do you think B or G?

My husband & I are going to end up divorced over naming our second child which we found out is going to be another boy! He wants to name him Aaron which is my DH's middle name...I would like to use it as a middle name.

Re: Poll: When you hear Aaron/Erin do you think B or G?

  • I think of both because since Aaron is the boy's name and Erin is the girl's name and I don't have a bias on this one. I think I know enough men and women each with this name that it doesn't conjure up a particular gender in my mind.

     Exactly my thoughts. I've known girl Erins and boy Aarons, so in my mind it can really be either (depending on how you spell it). And, I like that name for both boy and girl.

  • I think of both, and I have to see how it's spelled to determine.

    My name is Erin, and my parents chose the traditional feminine spelling.  Aaron is the masculine spelling.  I'm pretty traditional, but I don't really see any other way to spell this name, boy or girl.

  • i've never met a boy named erin or a girl named aaron.

    So i think it is safe to say that Aaron is a boy's name and Erin is a girl's name. To me they sound very different too.

    this.

  • Aaron is a boy, Erin is a girl!
  • Where I am from Aaron and Erin are pronounced differently so there is never a question.

    Aaron - pronounced kind of like Air-on

    Erin - pronounced Eh-rin

    So Aaron = boy and Erin = girl

  • I think of both. If I were to hear someone say "Aaron," I wouldn't automatically think of one gender. I would think, "Let's stick around to see if Aaron/Erin is a boy or girl." Although, I like it better as a boy's name.

  • I pronounce Erin and Aaron differently, so when I hear or say Erin, I mean girl and Aaron, boy.

    I happen to know an adult male named Erin and I think it's feminine.

    Yes, thanks...that's EXACTLY what I meant by the question. Yes When you HEAR the name Erin/Aaron do you associate with a girl or a boy?  But I guess the problem is also that I hav ALWAYS pronounced the two the same & I have had a couple of girl friends named Erin growing up.

  • I don't think of either.  I've actually never thought about it before, but it definitely doesn't trigger any thoughts of oh, definitely a boy or oh, definitely a girl.

  • I think both. I have a sister Erin, and a cousin Aaron.

  • They're two different names, and pronounced slightly differently. Depending on the spelling, I associate each with a different gender. Erin is a girl's name, Aaron is a boy's. Unfortunately, they're both ruined for me thanks to an ex named Aaron. Erin is just too close, even though they're different.

  • Well it dependson which name I hear, Aaron or Erin. Where I'm from, these are pronounced differently and it's obvious which one is the "boy name" and which one is the "girl name".

    Erin= Eh-rin (short E like Ellie)

    Aaron= Aaa-ron (short A like Abby)

    There should be a "neither" option in the poll.

    I think everyone basically gets the question, but just doesn't have a specific answer since it is so gender neutral.

    When I hear it, I think boy. I don't understand why so many people are confused by this question. It wasn't confusing at all. I live in LA and we pronounce the names identically.

    I like the name for either a boy or girl. DH does not like it as a boys name.
  • Can't vote either.

    Agree with pp

    Aaron - boy

    Erin - girl

    I am surprised that this is even a debate in your house.  I have never heard of Erin as a boy or Aaron as a girl.

  • I know an Erin and Aaron that got married.

    I probably initially think boy because I work with two Aarons.
