Anyone have any diet suggestions for helping leg cramps? Oddly enough my outer thigh and back of my thigh cramp up all night. Someone told me bananas help...I've been eating them like crazy today. Anything you've heard form your Dr etc?
You have them in your thigh? I have them in my calves. Ouch. I've had a few this pregnancy and several with my last (in the summer mostly). What I have heard - bananas, milk, lots of water, and a vitamin called cal-mag or something (calcium and magnesium). I'm going to ask the doc about the vitamin at my appointment on tuesday.

It makes sence to take magnesium, you need that to absorb the potasium in the bannans. (i think i just spelled a lot wrong. sorry)

I agree with the magnesium/calcium/water being needed more maybe in the diet, but on a side note, In my prenatal yoga class we learned a SUPER easy effective way to get rid of calf/thigh/foot cramps, by rubbing the area muscle with a tennis or golf ball every day, or when they are happening. Works for me at 3am when my foot cramps wake me up!
I experienced them in my calves at first and now I experience them there, my feet, and hands...its a horrible feeling. All the doc says is to drink plenty of water, eat bananas, and stretch really good before you get into bed at night and then when you get up in the morning. Hope this helps!
Re: Leg cramps?
Make sure you are getting enough water. That is what makes mine cramp.

Ooh I'll ask my Dr about that at my next appt:)
Last night I ate a banana after taking my prenatals before bed and it made a world of difference.
ANything with potassium! I have awful leg cramps... Tylenol wouldn't help them, but Bengay did! I have been eating lots of bananas...
