REALLY Rude Comment

I just have to get this off my chest: While I was on my work trip last week, we met up with some people for dinner. We were discussing how long we've been married and I told them that my husband and I have been married almost seven years. One of the guys that we were having dinner with says, "You've been married for seven years and you don't have kids?!?!" I didn't even know what to say. I know that he didn't mean anything by it, but it still hurt.

Yes, that does hurt. Some people just don't get it. I hope you had a good reply. Instead of saying what I really wanted to say, I'd probably say something like, well, we're just trying to be responsible and save up a nice nest egg before having kids.

That was extremely rude of him. Where do people get off saying things like that? Really he's basically saying "it's not normal to not have kids after being married that long so you need to give us all an explanation" you know? If it were me, I would think "hmm I wonder if they don't want children or have trouble or just aren't ready yet" but out loud I wouldn't say a damn thing...that's just rude.

So rude! Why do people find it OK to always have an opinion on when/if others are going to have children? Not even for those of us that have IF but there are couples that choose not to have kids - not everyone wants kids so it's rude all around! I'm sorry ((hugs))

Ugh, I've been married for 7 years and I get that a lot too. It's worse when I see my family, since they don't know we've been trying for 2 years. I totally know how you feel and agree that people are just sooooo rude sometimes.
