If you go to the American Academy of Pediatrics' website for parents, healthychildren.org, they have several recs, including "AAP's Your Baby's First Year," which I'm currently reading and it's good.
Do you already have the "What to Expect in the First Year"? That was my favorite, very helpful! I would read it month by month so I knew what to expect ) It also halped me with questions to ask the Dr at her check ups.
This. I had What to Expect.... and this when DD was born. And I always referenced Baby 411 when something came up. I'm packing it for the hospital this time. I just really liked the way it was written, it always made sense to me. I also have Baby Bargains and Toddler 411.

Vicky Iovine's "The Girlfriends' Guide to the First Year". She has also written several books on other topics (for example, pregnancy, toddlers, etc.) Personally, I think the What to Expect books can be somewhat evil, since they seem to employ the scare tactics a little too much for my liking, so the Girlfriends' Guides books are more laid back, with a humorous approach to some of the challenges of being a mom. Iovine was a playboy playmate, turned lawyer, turned mom of 4. She's just a riot.
Re: Books to read about the 1st year
Happiest Baby on the Block is GREAT for the first few months!

I second this.
I third it...this book was a life-saver.
