Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Any one's baby behind in milestones?

Please tell me I am not the only one.  Michael had his 4 month appointment today, and the dr said that he is a developmentally behind.  He isn't rolling over, isn't holding his head up much, and not standing.  He told us more tummy time and more holding him in the standing position.  I know that he will progress, but part of me is really sad that he is behind.  I am a teacher and have never really been on the parent's side of saying there is something wrong with their kid.  It is a lot harder than I thought.  The dr also is going to have us do either a cat scan or an mri because his head is flat.  He has Torticollis, so that explains his flat head, but still.  I feel like crap after all this news.  Anyone else been in my shoes?

Re: Any one's baby behind in milestones?

  • I think a lot of babies aren't rolling by 4 months... Mine hasn't rolled and he's almost 4 months.

Big hugs!  Just do what the pedi said and increase tummy time.

  • We just had our LO's 4 month appointment today, and he still is not rolling over.
  • Our LO doesn't roll over and he doesn't really like to stand at all, he normally refuses to support himself... he will be 4 mos on Sat. ?

Work on the tummy time, LO has bad reflux so it is hard. we use a mirror and that helps keep him interested...?

  • DD doesn't really roll. If I nudge her a little, she'll roll from back to belly. She also doesn't push up on her arms much. I brought all this up at her 4 month appointment but the pedi didn't say she was behind. She said everyone develops differently and that it's still early.
  • If babies don't meet milestones, it only means they'll meet them later.

    no worries :)

This.  Everyone on their own time!

  • My kid missed a TON of milestones for a long time because he simply did not feel well enough to...well, participate in life.

Once we got his reflux under control, he did 3 major milestones in under 24 hours (laugh, find feet...and I forget what the third was!)

All that said just to tell you that they can hold off, hold off, and then BAM! make-up for it really quickly.
