DCP called me today at 11:30 to tell me that his fever was 103.7- great! She gave him tylenol and I was making sub plans so that I could l eave. She called back and said he was shaking (shivering pretty violently) and it was making her worried. So out I ran without plans..
-fast forward to doctor's office-
Pedi looks in his throat and says it could be hand, foot, and mouth- really?? he already had this...I thought once he got it, he would build up an immunity.
Could also be roseola. Really? Aren't they quite different?
She has me get a chest xray, CBC, and UA for him. Poor kid was poked and prodded all day. The chest xray was negative so it's not pneumonia.
Got home and his fever spiked to 104.1.
He's up every hour. It's going to be a long night and what does he have...who knows!?!?!?!
Re: I hate when you leave the doctor and you still don't know what's wrong!
No they didn't...When it went to 104.1, I called and asked if I should go and she said I could go whenever I didn't feel comfortable. But if I went to the ER, they would just want to do blood work all over again so if I could wait for the results it would be better. She said if his temp spiked again to go. He just woke up, wonder what it is....
really??? Will he??? He JUST got off antibiotics on Friday. I feel like he has been sick non stop since November.
I can't wait for June!
I"m sorry. DD is always sick too. She has croup now. Gotta love daycare. But everytime they're sick, they've built up immunity to another virus...to bad there are millions of viruses
If it makes you feel any better, I've been seeing tons of Roseola and Mycoplasma (I'm a pediatric derm PA)...both have high fevers (103-104), URI symptoms, then a rash. So if he gets a rash once the fever breaks, it is one of those. Neither are dangerous. Hang in there! And if you are worried, don't be scared to go to the ER - trust your instincts!
