So I haven't dyed my hair since high school. But I'm really bored and I've been thinking that I want to. What are some at home preggo safe kits? Is it ok as long as it says no amonia like natural instincts? Is Garnier Fruitiss ok? I like one of their colors. It doesn't say amonia free though. What do u use?

Re: Anyone dying their hair?
Although I'm a SAHW I have had my cosmo liscense for 7 years. I wouldn't recommend over the counter hair color (ever) but especially while pregnant. Your hormones are all out of whack & can process the color completely different. I'd let a pro take over & treat yourself to a salon day.
If you're going to do it at home, just make sure the room you use is well ventilated. You'll be fine.

I understand that OTC hair dye can be risky... I 100% agree with that... however, I use Clairol Nice n' Easy with built-in highlights.... I have long, very thick hair... and my hair is very shiny, soft, and I don't have any split ends in between haircuts. The built-in highlights are true to their word... my hair doesn't look dyed at all, and it has really pretty shades of dark blonde and lighter blonde.
Even my stylist (much to her chagrin) admits that my hair is extremely healthy, and the color is gorgeous. Poor girl finally gave up on trying to get me to let her color my hair.
**But I do agree that it is a risk. I think some people's hair can respond to it well like mine.... and other people's might not turn out too great.
ETA: In the welcome packet that my doctor handed out.. it said that dying your hair was safe as long as you did it in a well-ventilated area.
My hair naturally jet black, and since 19 its been going grey/white. If I went to the salon to get it done I'd be going twice a month the rate it grows so I use the Feria hair color at home. Its great- my hair is always soft and silky and healthy and DH loves the way it smells cause it doesn't have the hair dye smell.
I'm doing mine tonight or tomorrow.
PS- I dye my DH's small grey patch when I do mine.. don't tell he'll kill me! lol
i'm treating myself to a cut, color, manicure & pedicure once i get my federal return
my doctor said it's totally fine & i think it'll make me feel so much better!
Im a hair stylist also and I would seriously recomend you going to a salon if you are going to do it. Definatly dont use Garnier Fruitiss if you do decide to do it at home because it Fing hard to get out if you hate it. And I have colored my hair the same color for almost a year and the last time it didnt take because of my hormones and whatnot. So just seriously think about it before you make a decision
I've read of some doctor's that don't recommend dying your hair a solid color because it touches your scalp. However, highlights are perfectly safe because the bleach doesn't touch your scalp. If it did, you would feel the burn. It's okay to get your highlights done, your roots will thank you
