Non-red-meat eaters (and others): Vitamin deficiencies?

Do you have any vitamin or mineral or whathaveyou levels that aren't where they should be -- especially when it comes to TTC hormone levels?

I haven't eaten red meat in about 17 years or so -- but I do eat chicken and turkey a few times a week. I've had serious fatigue issues for almost that long.

Therefore, I was tested all the time for anemia and such (which was always normal) before I determined that I don't get any B12 in my diet. Yay, fatigue is nearly gone!

But now I'm concerned that I'm lacking in other stuff so I should go to a holistic doctor to check. Has anyone done this, and what have you found?

  • I went to the doctor last year because I was totally exhausted for no good reason.  I eat red meat so I didn't know what it could be.  I had blood tests done and I was extremely low in B12.  The B12 made a huge difference (as you well know).  I'd go to your regular doc to see if there are other blood tests that can determine if you are lacking something, and then also a holistic doctor for advice.  Glad you found a solution to the fatigue!

I guess the B12 is in meats like liver and stuff that a lot of burger-eaters don't regularly eat. So that was all that your blood tests revealed, the low B12?

My regular doc tested "everything" he said; then he finally gave up and sent my for hormone testing through my obgyn. So I'm definitely going to go to a holistic doctor if I want other testing, but I'm just wondering what kinds of things people have found.

    Thanks!

  • I haven't eaten red meat for about that long as well. I am borderline low with B12 and low in Vitamin D. However, I read you shouldnt take a Vit D supplement on your own without talking to your dr.

Yeah, my vitamin D levels were always fine. Well, maybe a hair on the low side but still normal.
