meal ideas needed for toothless child

my son still only has 2.5 teeth. Nothing useful either, two bottom front and half of an upper in the front.

He's not eating. He doesn't like what we give him which includes almost anything in the fridge. He loves cheese and will eat it anyday... needless to say he gets it often because it's something he'll eat.

He still doesn't like too much for texture because, I'd imagine, it feels funny on his gums. He manages to "chew" fairly well but only when it's something he's interested in.
I wouldn't say he's picky, just moody when it comes to food... if you feed him the right food at the right time he'll eat it all.

I don't know what else to feed this kid short of hot dog weenies (eew) and cheese.

suggestions? My think tank is on empty.

thanks

  • DD ate everything she does now when she had no teeth. We just cooked it a little more and cut it up a little smaller. Shredded Chicken was a hit too.

  • My DD only has her two top and two bottom teeth but eats everything.  With that said, for your DS, what about meatloaf, mashed potatoes, apple sauce, bananas, yogurt, noodles (spiral or bowtie), scrambled eggs, really really really boiled veggies like carrots or peas.....
  • Oh yeah, and try soups.  DD loves any broth or creamy soup.  Tomato soup is yummy!  And try waffles in the microwave, so they are not too crispy....
  • Sounds like our children have identical teeth. We feed her fish sticks, diced up fruit(we buy the Dole Fruit Cups), chicken, chicken nuggets, spaghetti (or any pasta, with or without sauce), yogurt, mashed potatoes, green beans, peas, steamed carrots, tomatoes, rice, oatmeal, tater tots, toast, grilled cheese.

That's the short list. She can pretty much eat whatever we eat. I just have to make sure the pieces are really small and chewable.

  • Before DD had enough teeth, we would just puree her food using a hand blender. You can get one for around $30 and it's totally worth the investment. She used gag on food cut into pieces, but she would eat almost anything we pureed. If your DS likes cheese, you could puree some cheese into his food - veggies and cheese, noodles and cheese, etc. so he likes the flavor.
  • if your DS likes cheese try:

    eggs and cheese

cheesy chicken and  broccoli (make a white sauce with butter, flour, milk; add cheese, chicken, and broccoli - which you can chop up as finely as you need to, or even puree!)

    grilled cheese

    quesadillas with beans/veggies
