Where did you get DC's "big girl/boy" bed?

DD is getting too long for her crib converted to toddler bed.  I want to get her something nice but I didn't realize everything was so expensive.  I figure it is probably worth it to spend more and get something that will last a long time and be safe/sturdy. . .however I think I am going to have trouble spending that much $$

  • I am going to go to a furniture consignment place on Monday. We don't need a whole set, just a bed so I am hoping to get a good deal. They have nice things, but it is way cheaper then buying new.

  • We bought the frame and mattress at a furiture store near us.  He does not have a headboard (just a wall mural).  We found a dresser and bookshelves on Craigs List for a great price.  Oh, BTW, we got the thinner box spring so he could get up into and out of the bed himself.  Regular size plus the thicker mattress made it too high for him.

  • We went to Ashley furniture and got a pretty good deal. They have nice stuff, but aren't TOO expensive. We did end up with a bunkbed for him (DH wanted it and got DS wanting it too), so we spent more than I would've liked, but it was still less than $1000 and we can take it apart when he gets older and just have the one twin bed in his room.

ETA: It was less than $1000 with the mattresses included!

  • Have you looked at Ikea? They normally have pretty good stuff and good prices.
  • the same specialty children's furniture store where we bought her crib.  It cost @$300 for the bedframe.  We got her a mattress at IKEA, where I also looked for beds, just wound up liking this bed better than my favorite options at IKEA.
