It's fine...no pain or anything. Maybe a little akward, but nothing else. They even put a condom on it, which I thought was pretty funny. It's kinda cool though, if they let you see what they are looking at.

Totally painless and actually not even that awkward. My techs have always given me the wand to insert and you're covered up with a sheet. They just move it around for a while, take their pictures and voila - you're done.

It wasn't bad. I had all this fluid pushed up there first, and that was kind of a little more awkward, because I kept thinking, "What if I'm peeing and just think it's the fluid?" I was also on the heaviest AF I, or the nurse practitioner, have ever seen (I had no choice but to get it done that day). But, beyond that, it's honestly like a dildo being pushed up there, while someone is pressing on your tummy.

They aren't bad. I have one this afternoon actually. Putting it in doesnt hurt at all, I just think its a little uncomfortable when they mash on your ovaries. But I'd rather have the dildo cam than a pap anyday!

That is what the brochure is telling me to do. Drink 40 oz of water 1 hour before exam and do not void before test. Not sure but that's what it says to do. Hmmmm. I will ask though when I call to preregister my appt.

huh? I've never had to drink water for a transvag. u/s, and I've had plenty of them.

I had to drink 40 oz an hour before, too. The do that so they can clearly see the position of your bladder. Then half way through, they have you go to the bathroom and empty your bladder. Then you go back for a second round.

And that's for the internal ultrasound? Odd. Normally that's what they tell you do to for the external one and tell you to have an empty bladder for the internal.

I think it depends on what they are looking for, whether or not they want you with a full or empty bladder. When I went for the first one with my OB, they were just checking to see if there were any abnormalities with my parts. This was my one-year-and-nothing-is-happening appointment. At the RE's office when I've had them, they make me empty my bladder. Those have been for follie checks. It also may depend on the person doing it and how they prefer it. Another RE did my first IUI and didnt want me to empty my bladder and my RE did then next one and asked me to empty my bladder...so who knows.

The first time it was slightly uncomfortable because my bladder was full and nobody told me to empty it. The other 2 times, it wasnt bad at all. Just awkward!

I agree!!! At least with the dildo cam it doesn't feel like they are opening you up with a car jack.

Extrenals, sure. But not internals.

But if that's what they told you, I guess go for it. It's probably going to make it a bit more uncomfortable for you.

Yea, I'm thinking so too. I'll explain to the tech preforming the u/s before they start anything, just to make sure it is correct protocol.

Be careful about drinking too much. The 40oz. is a general number for people of all sizes......The last time I had an ultrasound (a regular one) they wanted me to drink 36oz. and I did. I was in the MOST pain trying to hold all of that and the tech said she had never seen anyone actually drink all of it and that I could go let a little out to be more comfortable.

I'm not saying to not follow instructions, I just don't want you to feel the way I did that day!

By the way, I only drank about 24 oz.. And I'm glad I didn't go for 40. My bladder was plenty full. In fact, after the first half of images were taken I went pee and came back for the second round, the tech laughed because she could see that my bladder was already filling up again.

I've h ad to many...no a big deal. You feel pressure as they move the camera around, maybe some pain here and there if something is hiding. They usually have you drink a lot of water before hand and do a regular u/s, then pee, and then they do the inner u/s.
