Is a glider/rocker really necessary?

Is a glider/rocker really necessary?

How many are not getting one?

I really haven?t even started to think about registering for anything yet but I see all these posts for them asking for opinions?so was wondering if I need to look into one?

Thanks,

Re: Is a glider/rocker really necessary?

  • I am having baby 3, and hopefully this time around I will get a rocker (or probably a leather recliner we can use in the living room later)  I survived two babies without one, I just took babies to my living room to nurse at night, and then back to their bed.

  • I've been asking all my mommy friends this and have yet to find one who thinks I should skip it.
  • You don't **need** to have one, no.  It's really your own personal preference.  If you don't like rockers, don't worry about getting one since you probably won't use it.

For me, I loooooove to rock (even my chair at work rocks!).  I felt it would also be a soothing motion for the baby.

  • We happened to have a recliner in our basement that we weren't using that also rocked. We lucked out in that department because we didn't have to spend the money on a new one. However, I am so glad that we have a comfortable chair in the nursery. Those late night feedings were much nicer in the comfort of a good chair. Also, just sitting and rocking her and reading books to her is nice in a comfy chair too.
  • My son is 19 months old and I still use his every night for story and prayer time before bed. It also helps me to spend one-on-one time with him, whereas if I didn't have it in his room, we would probably both be zoned out in front of the TV in the family room every night before bed.
  • I don't know about necessary.  Honestly, very little we buy for the baby is a must have.  However, I will say that all of my friends love their gliders and we bought a nice upholstered one that I think of as an investment because it will grow with our son... we can read stories in it later, etc.  HTH!

  • I had a rocking chair and hated it.  It didn't stay in one place and was so uncomfortable when I was trying to nurse.  I think next baby, I will get a glider.

  • I posted this same question on the 0-3 board as I don't really like them and would rather not spend the $. Thought I'd share with you the responses, here is the link to my post:

  • i have a rocking chair in the nursery that my mil gave to us, i have yet to use it. we did all of ds feedings in the living room, so maybe that's the reason it wasn't used but i'm sure you could live without it.
