Re: Ghost Stories

  • when i was in Or right after my uncles passing, i went to the next major city from my gmas. about an hour away. Where my bestie lives. Driving back from her house, i took a wrong turn , ended up in a state park at a beuitiful vista, i got out of the car, enjoying the beuty that is the Oregon coast. THe wind kicked up something fierce, i got the feeling i should leave, that i needed to get back in the car, something bad could happen. i got back in the car and got on a mountain road, travelling through a forest, and enjoying music my uncle would have, i felt him. Sitting in my car.  cruising along. The drive between bf's house and where i was staying only takes about 45 mins. It took me 2.5 hours and i had no cell coverage. I got in and everyone had been worried. Come to find out , the pretty vista? that was where my uncle's long time girlfriend had commited sucide 2 years prior. The drive back i took was a favorite of his.

This memory gives me chills everytime i think of it. But he obviously wanted to share all that with me, before i left.

  • I have a ton.  I think it runs in my family to be "in-tune" to that sort of stuff.

I'll share what happened with Mason.

I was giving him a bath with my back turned to the hallway.  Mason was just about a year old, looked up, past me, pointed & said "Grandpa?"

I turned to see if DH was there, and he wasn't.  Nothing was there.  So I asked M what he looked like.  He giggled and said Grandpa has glass (which meant glasses).  Well, his Grandpa doesn't wear glasses, but Mark's did.

At the time I wasn't yet aware of the other sprits at our house.  Now, I think the older man with the glasses is the same presence I feel coming up the front walk.

  • My great-grandmother died and left her summer house in Maine, which held  all of her antiques and paintings (her father was a significant American impressionist) to all three of her children, and they promptly started fighting over who got what. 2 months to the day after she died, the house was struck by lightning and burned to the ground, leaving NOTHING. Now, our family believes that she is still around, "haunting" the house next door, which belonged to her sister and is still in my family...
  • The most recent one was on my birthday.  I was taking a bath, shaving my legs and I heard our front door.  It's a heavy solid wood door so it has it's own sound when it opens.  I heard the dogs run down the hall way in response to the door opening but instead of barking like they normally do they just kind of "ooffed" and walked around.  Then a female voice called out "Hey! It's just me!"  I called back "Hello?  Who's there?  Hello?  Anybody there?"  And there was no answer, I called the dogs to the bathroom door and they came, i heard them walking around out side the door.  When I got out the front door was locked, I did that before i got in the tub, and there was no on there and I asked my MIL and SIL if they'd come down to our house for anything and they both said they hadn't left their house all day until we went to dinner that night.

I am pretty sure it was my mom just checking in and letting me know she's there with me.

As for the ghost cat that started after we lost two cats in about a month.  DH heard a cat crying in the hall way, he looked over and saw his cat asleep on the chair in his office, he got up to see if it was our other cat but she was asleep in the front room.

As for the foot steps in the hall way we've always heard those and think they might be from a previous owner of the house or maybe my mom just checking things out, they got more prevalent after she passed away.

  • You all are freaking me out today!  And Lizz that story is awesome!  I love grandma's who do their own bidding from the beyond.

And Falynn, that story is amazing.  And totally totally freaking creepy!

  • Oh I have one more!  Sorry for being a post hog but I love the paranormal and even belong to our local paranormal society.

When I was 14 my grandmother passed away.  She was my mom's mom.  I spent a lot of time with her as a child.  I was born with an umbilical cord hernia which made me a very sick baby.  It would get hungry and cry to eat only to have eating hurt, then I would need to use the bathroom and that would hurt too.  So I did a lot of crying and it was very overwhelming for my mom who hadn't had any kids before me.  So my grams took care of me a lot as she was a nurse and was used to cranky babies.

After she passed a was very said, maybe even depressed.  Her house was being sold and I missed having her yard to play in her fruit trees to eat from and her company to enjoy.

I was laying in bed one night crying about her and I was some where between sleep and awake when I felt a person sit down on the foot of bed, my grams was a large lady and that is what it felt like.  I heard her tell me not to be sad for her that she was home with her husband and her two babies she had lost and that she would always be with me in my heart.  I felt so much better after that.  I told my mom about it the next day and she said that it was weird because she swore she'd smelt my grams perfume in our house that night.

  • Mine is in the form of a dream. A school mate of mine was murdered by her long time boyfriend (years after we graduated) who turned the gun on himself and committed suicide right after. Normally she was very happy go lucky person but in my dream, we were in our Jr. High classroom, she was standing at the chalk board looking at me (no one else in the room) and chanting with a blank stare, "I'm in a state of unrest," over and over.

It seemed so real. I couldn't shake the feeling of being freaked out by it, so I went to my friend who is into the occult and asked her what it meant. It wasn't like we were good friends or anything. If this was real, why me? So my friend said that in one culture they believed that if you found their grave and brought flowers that the dreams would stop.

So I hunted down where we was laid to rest. It turns out that it was 2 plots down from where my dad was buried. I didn't know that in advance. I hadn't been to visit my dad in a few years but if what my friend said is true, I think that I found the connection. I laid down flowers and never had another dream like that again. If all the ghost culture is true, I hope that she can find the right person to let her rest.

Another time I thought I saw someone from high school (out of the corner of my eye) while I was working. It didn't strike me as strange since it was a busy, crowded place but when I called a friend to tell them who I saw, she said it was impossible because he committed suicide the week before. Yikes!

  • My grandfather visits my kids often. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

When Joshua was a little over a year old, he was in our living room laughing like someone was tickling him. He was sitting staring at our loveseat, pointing and clapping.

I asked him what was so funny and he kept saying over and over again, "Papang! Papang!" Which is what we all called my grandfather. My papang passed away right after my 8th grade graduation.

I usually ask my grandfather to leave because it scares me when he visits. I did this and Joshua just turned around and started playing with other toys.

Another story...Joshua's room was the first room in our house. When he was little he used to get scared and his eyes would roam the room. The hubs and I (then one and done) decided to move him to the room closest to our master bedroom. He never had issues after that. But we both thought it was due to the fact that his room was now across the hall from ours, giving him comfort that we were closer.

But now that room belongs to Jacklyn. And in recent weeks she has started to do the same things that Joshua used to do. She'll be fine in her room and then she'll cry out for us, her eyes roaming the room.

She did this again last night and I got the chills/heebie jeebies so I grabbed her and she slept with us last night.

The hubs, being practical, says he will check the room and see if the lights from the church behind us gives out strange lights in her room. If that's the case he will put the blackout shades back up.

  • I posted on FB about my connection with my Grandfathers death.

Josie - I too ask them to leave if I get an uneasy feeling.  It's always seemed to work.  I've been fortunate to not have any ill-will intending beings visit me.

I feel them everywhere.  I'm thankful that I can only feel them and not actually see them.  My Mom, sees them, I don't know how she manages.

  • I'm totally thankful for that too Julia.

Although I'm not sure what is going on in our first bedroom. If Jon's lights theory doesn't pan out, I'm going to ask my grandmother to come and see if she *feels* anything.

I will feel them too from time to time and while it gives me chills I never feel threatened. It scares me, but I never feel like I'm in danger.

I just feel bad for Jack right now.

Maybe you could burn some sage in there, cleanse the room?
