was it difficult for you at first to babywear while you were out and about by yourself, wearing baby and carrying diaper bag and any baby paraphenelia or did it work itself out? i know i've seen the mamas with strollers and they have their 'extras' in the underneath storage so they're not carrying anything. it just randomly occurred to me last night that it might take some getting used to at least at first, no?
Re: babywearing out by yourself
Once I started going out alone with DD, it wasn't for like 6 hours or anything so I would change her before we left into one of my favorite/most reliable diapers, I would tuck a CD in my purse just in case and that was it. Figured if the situation arose, I would make due with what was in a public bathroom. But really, never needed to do a change when I hopped to Target or the market or to take a walk or go over to my neighbor's house to hang out. I HATE changing DD in public places - dirty public bathrooms, bad lighting, weird echos, she is squirmy, nowhere clean to put down your stuff, etc. I try to limit the times I have to do it.
Oh and my purse has a shoulder strap and also a sling over body strap so that helps when wearing DD.
this is fabulous news - i was under the impression that there was all sorts of things you 'needed' when going anywhere with baby for any amt of time. hence the huge diaper bag.
so those of you that just toss a dipe and maybe a wetbag in your purse, do you do without a changing pad? do people actually USE changing pads IRL or is it just one of those things you think you'll need/use but don't in actuality when out and about?

It depends. Our diaper bag came with a thin nylon pad that was easy to fold up and stick in my purse. But, if we were going somewhere that I might take a small blanket, I just used the blanket, not the pad. I think I may have even changed her ON the wetbag before. lol

YES, me too. I hate trying to use those gross changing tables, not letting DD touch anything and trying to balance the diaper bag so that I don't have to put it on the floor.
i used a sling. it's amazing what you can actually cram in there (besides the baby). i carried my cards/$ in a little card case that fit in the pocket of the sling (as did my phone). i could stuff a diaper/burp cloth/etc in the sides of the sling (under arms).
when i did use my diaper bag, i lengthened teh strap and carried it across my chest (top of the sling, but not over baby) and had the bag bumping on my butt.
