Which dairy alternative milk tastes most like cow milk?

I love milk, but DD has a minor sensitivity to it.  I miss it.  I've tried soy and almond milk so far, but the almond milk is too nutty and soy isn't good for you either.  Is there  a milk alternative that tastes like milk?

  • I don't think any of them will tasts that much like cow's milk.  Have you tried oat or hemp yet to see if you like the taste better?

  • To me, hemp milk seemed to be more "creamy". None of them have tasted much like cow's milk, but I love my vanilla hemp milk, and vanilla rice milk isn't bad either IMO
  • What about goat's milk?  Does it taste anything like cow's milk?

Not yet, those are on my list.  Thanks :)

  • I don't think goat milk tastes like cow milk, less so than soy IMO.  Also there are different brands of these sorts of milk that have different tastes.  Check out vegan sites like VegNews.com,  they often review milk alternatives and give great descriptions.

We have gotten to where we only like Silk soy milk - vanilla for cereal, unsweetened (green box, not red) for cooking and such.

  • Have you tried lactose free milk?  Maybe she's reacting to the lactose...

  • I don't mind rice milk myself.  It's sweet though but the same thickness as skim (I drank skim before I became lactose intolerant and can't stand thick milk).

Have you tried lactose free milk?  Is she sensitive to that too?

  • I cant imagine goat's milk tastes anything like cow's.  It has a very distinct smell to it and is so thick (that I can't get past that for myself).

The doc said that her symptoms imply that she's reacting to the proteins in the milk, and not the lactose, sadly.  We used to drink lactose free milk because DH is lactose sensitive.
