3rd Trimester

35 week appointment and high blood pressure

So, I had my 35 week appointment today and the doctor said I have the beginnings of high blood pressure.  He said I am not going back to work, and wants my feet up for two hours in the morning, afternoon and evening.  I go back next Monday for another exam and an ultrasound.  He said to plan on having the baby early!

Anyone else have anything similar happen to them?

  • What was your BP? I just posted about my 35w appt too. They just did PIH blood work, but no resting orders or anything. I was at 150/94 today. Boo!

I did have PIH and pre-e with my first 2 pregnancies and had both of them 2 weeks early, so going early is a possibility for me too!

  • I had great bp until about 36/37 weeks.  I had a similar experience this morning.  The MW informed me that I am done with work immediately and I'm on bedrest.  I have to go back on Wednesday and may be induced then.  They said I should plan on having the baby next week, at the latest.  So my advice is enjoy your modified rest because you might get put on strict bedrest soon.  Do whatever you can to finish getting ready for LO without raising your pressure.  Good luck!

  • mine's been high or borderline for weeks now and has not progressed anywhere beyond that FWIW. Mine's been consistently in the 140s/90s or so, dropping for a few days then going back up. I was put on rest but am allowed to work from home.
  • I had high bp last week..week 36 and it was 142/92..she sent me for blood work to be on the safe side and told me to drink more water..tests came back fine and told me to just drink more water and watch my salt..
  • I was hypertensive with horrible pitting edema 2 weeks ago. I work 3 12-hour shifts so I was placed on 8's, started on 250mg Aldomet three times a day and orders to "rest" on my days off. I am definitely in the throws of PIH. Even with the medication I'm still running in the high 140's to low 150's. My appt is tomorrow and I don't think it looks good for me....

Well, mine doesn't seem that high.  I think it was 126 or 136/86.  I guess he is just being very cautious?

  • Wow, how high was your bp?  Was this the first time is was high?  Mine has been consistently high my whole pregnancy, but I haven't been diagnosed with pre-e yet, which is good.  My Dr. has ordered weekly BPP's and NST's, but I haven't had to be on bedrest.  I had to take a 24 hour urine test a couple of months ago, which I have to repeat again this week, so we'll know if it is progressing from PIH to pre-e.

  • Mine was high before I was even 14 weeks pregnant and I was put on Labetalol, which had everything under control until my 34 week appointment when my BP was back to it's beginning high level (140/90).  My OB ordered bloodwork and a urine test, but not the 24 hour urine and had me come back the next week to have it checked again.  It was still high (140/94) so the nurse told me just to keep my appointment for this week, which is tomorrow.  I haven't gotten a phone call that my bloodwork came back bad so I'm hoping all is fine.  I'll find out more tomorrow morning.

There has been no bedrest for me, yet.  But I am now officially on maternity leave so at least that's a plus!  Maybe tomorrow my BP will be okay, wishful thinking there.

  • At my 33 weeks appointment last week I had my first high blood pressure reading..130/84 i think...so now I have to go this Wednesday for another reading..I am off from work this week so he is hoping it goes back down with rest..I hope so too...Stress is the cause he tells me and I hate work right now so that is the reason I believe..
  • gosh i feel super stressed out..I had my 33 week appt today with the wrong doctor cos the office messed up..big surprise...had my NST...and was told by this other way better doctor that i should be seeing my doctor twice a week for my hypertension and that I shouldnt be working anymore...My reg doctor has me come in every three weeks and has not said one thing about hypertension...i got put on aldomet two times a day 500mg before week 20 and three weeks ago he added one more dose...so 3 times a day 500mg and my bp is still 134/90..but im still driving two hours each way to work and working fulltime...
  • I had high BP before my pregnancy.  It was controlled with Aldomet 250mg twice daily until last week, when it was at 140/90.  My OB had me repeat a 24 hour urine (I had a baseline at about 13 weeks).  I have a f/u appt on Wednesday.  I'm having weekly NSTs and I'm just crossing my fingers that things stay stable and I can keep working until I deliver ...
