Parenting after a Loss

talk to me about tummy time

How often do you do it? For how long? I haven't been told anything about it but I know I should be doing it. DS was born with AWESOME neck/head control, but I know it's good for him. I tried putting him on his tummy on the boppy a little bit ago and he lasted about a minute before the screaming started.

Re: talk to me about tummy time

  • I tried every day to do a little tummy time.  My LO was like your DS and hated it.  At about 6 weeks she started to tolerate it.  If she fussed I turned her over right away.  She also had a really strong neck from day one but on her tummy didn't start lifting her head until 6ish weeks.  Even now she sometimes fusses right away.  Other times she likes it more and kicks and rolls over.

  • Our pediatrician suggested doing a minute or two of tummy time after each diaper change (unless he'd eaten recently). That way, it'd be broken up into manageable pieces if he was unhappy about tummy time.
  • We usually try and do a little everyday.  He likes it more now that he is older.  But he also rolls over so sometimes it doesn't last very long now.

  • We have started doing tummy time, but I hate it because I can tell Catherine doesn't like it.  I usually do it when she is awake, like after a diaper change.  And I hold colorful things in front of her and get on her level and talk to her.  I feel satisfied when she pulls her neck up and/or turns her head from one side ot the other.  I hope she likes it more as she grows.
