HOW do you get your DD to let you do her hair?

>: I want so badly to do her hair. I try, and I try, and we put it up, or we put a barrette in, or a headband or a ponytail and she rips everything out immediately after looking in the mirror :( It's sad! She looks so stinkin' cute and her hair is a trainwreck sometimes (curls get knotty/stick straight out/bed head-mullet etc). I just want to do her hair and I see so many siggies w/ girls the same age wearing things in their hair. NOT FAIR - bestow me with your wisdom magical hair-fairy moms!!

    Maybe dont do it in front of the mirror?  DD occasionally tries to rip it out but if I catch her in the act I tell her "no" sternly and put it back in.

    I don't usually do it in front of the mirror, but she immediately runs to one (or the oven door) so she can see haha. If I say no and put her hand down she screams and grabs it harder and rips it out :| I guess we just may have to wait longer? :(

    DD barely has any hair (it's a crazy mullet right now), so just be glad she has some to do anything with!!

    For some reason DD will keep a regular headband on. I have one that I wear occasionally and she'll take it right off of my head and walk around with it. Have you tried those? (Not a headband w/elastic, just the ones that are like a U or horseshoe shape.)

    We started REALLY early to avoid this problem. I buy the little Goody elastics that are in the baby section at Walmart, and DD cant pull those out. Silly as it sounds, I bought one of those $1 water bottles, and DD sucks the water out of it if she's really squirmy. Works everytime :)

    I tell Dd that it is her "pretty" She'll take bows out so she can look at them but can't get the small elastic bands out and doesn't really try to. Don't know what to suggest. Keep trying!

    I do it while she's sitting in her chair eating breakfast. It doesn't always work but usually.

     Keep the mirrors away!

    yes the little colored plastic bands...almost look like what you would put on your braces.  That is what I use as well and she cannot get those out.  She can get a the clip on bows out, but I always use a rubber band first so at least that stays in.

    Also, DD has had hair since day one, so maybe she is just really used to it now and that could be why she pretty much leaves it alone

    We're in the same boat. For a very short while, when she was around 8-11 months, she'd let me put cute little barrettes in to keep her bangs out of her eyes. Then one day she discovered she could rip them out and play with them instead, and I haven't managed to get one to stay ever since.

    And forget ponytails... I have tried and tried, and she WILL NOT hold still long enough to get her hair into a rubberband. I've even considered doing it while she's sleeping... haven't tried yet though. :)

    I finally had to cut some long bangs just to get them out of her eyes.

    Yeah I'm going to have to trim her bangs soon too, since she won't let me keep them back! I'll try to get some of those elastic bands, I had some a while back but... haha who knows where they are now :P I can get her hair in the ponytail no problem (I think she likes how it feels when I play with her hair) but once it's in it's immediately out.

    Unfortunately starting early hasn't alleviated this problem for us.  She used to keep pigtail holders or clips in her hair, but no more.  Hair accessories don't stand a chance with her.  It's bothering me because her hair is a rat's nest.  I don't want to cut it again, but I think I'm going to have to.

    LOL, us too. The first thing DD asks for in the morning after I get her clothes changed is her "pretty". I put in her barette and she squeals with delight and says pretty. It's so cute. She was constantly taking it out up until very recently. Now she'll pull it out only occasionally.

    Well, it hasn't fixed the part about what I put in her hair, but it did fix her sitting still. If she tries to run off, she realizes it doesn't feel too good to have your ponytail going in the opposite direction lol I don't even dare try clips or bows. I have regular clips that we use to keep it out of her face. That's all I can get other than elastics.
