shoes for 1 year old?

My daughter turned one last week and she is definitely starting to want to walk more and more.  We still need to hold her hands, but she can walk for a few minutes.  What shoes are best for her feet?  She walks on her tiptoes a lot, so maybe something with a hard sole to weigh her feet down a little bit?  The doc said not to worry about it just yet, but I want to make sure I get appropriate shoes for her.  TIA!

Re: shoes for 1 year old?

  • Around the house leave her barefoot or in socks.  When I took DS out I had some really soft soled shoes I put on him.  I found a cute and cheaper pair at BRU (since I knew he would grow out of them pretty quickly).  After that we put him in a pair of Robeez Tredz.  The soles are plastic, but they are thinner and very flexible.  At 16 months old we're now on to sneakers which are still somewhat flexible, but are more rigid than the Tredz.

  • i think when they first start walking, it's recommended to let them go barefoot or in soft soles. i keep finding Robeez at Marshall's for $10, so we have a few pair for when C needs them.
    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

  • agree with PPs, at home she should go barefoot or in socks, if ti's cold, she can wear soft-soled shoes like Robeez. She should only need real, hard-soled shoes for when she's outside. We bought a couple of pairs from Rite Stride at the Leesburg Outlets.
  • Agree with PPs go barefoot/socks indoors. When my DD is outside she is usually in pedipeds or stride rite

Ditto this.  Until she starts walking outside a lot I used the soft soles.  Then stride rite has good early shoes for walkers if they go outside for daycare ot other play.

  • I love Stride Rites shoes for early walkers.  They are worth the price.  We also have a pair of Pedipeds, but they are super slippery on our wood floors so I'm hesitant to have DD wear them at all.  Socks are good indoors, but make sure you buy the kind with the grips on the bottom.
