I know this totally nit-picky, but I just HAVE to say it. When you go to your big u/s you are not finding out the "gender" of your baby... you are finding out the SEX. They are not the same thing.
K, that's it.
It bothers me when people leave out small, important words like "is".
We all have our thing. People using gender/sex interchangeably is not mine.

It's a fine line, but "sex" and "gender" are not exclusive from one another. The term gender can actually refer to the characteristics expected to accompany someone's sex: Feminine = female, masculine = male. Also, it's been my understanding that gender typically focuses on the social elements, but not always or in every culture. Probably because so many people use it interchangeably with sex.
What it comes down to is that we all know exactly what they mean. I'd rather allow someone to be excited about their big u/s then belittle them with correct word usage. But maybe that's just a peeve of mine.
If you're on a work computer and they monitor your emails, etc., its usually safer to use words like gender which wouldn't raise any flags in the monitoring software.
I find this hilarious. People vent about dumb crap on here every day, yet people are up in arms about this when the OP admitted it was minor.
Defensive much?
Agreed. I pointed out a month or so ago that there was a difference between the two words (because I had just learned that I was using them incorrectly) and got flamed to high heaven. It made me laugh to see people getting so defensive about it.

I knew the difference... When I conducted studies, we were always told we needed to put "sex" and not "gender" on the surveys.
And still, this does not annoy me.
