if you don't mind me asking - crib bedding cost

Hi ladies. I am really getting excited to start on our baby girl's nursery and am hoping to choose a bedding set first for some inspiration. I've been using the internet and have found sets ranging from $150 to over $600. I guess I am looking for a not so girly-girl, modern, soft and cute set. How much are you spending? Are you registering for the set if it's at BRU or similar? I am a little nervous to do so in case it sells out. Thanks for your comments!

  • Hey! I think its pretty personal what kind of bedding you should get.  I had a really good idea in my head of what I wanted the nursery to look like and I just couldn't find anything like that at BRU or the other places I looked so I ended up designing custom bedding at a local baby store.  I'm not registering for it, but if I would have found something at BRU I would definitely put it on there!  HTH!

  • I ended up getting a great deal.  We got ours at jcp.com and it was originally $150, marked down to $110, and I had a 20% off coupon so I ended up getting 2 complete sets for $180.

There were a lot more girl sets I liked out there, but this was one of 2 sets I liked for a boy so I think I lucked out

  • I am going to make my own bedding because everything seems so expensive to me.  I don't want to spend $150.00 on something when the baby can't even use the blanket.  That is just my opinion.  If I was to register or buy something pre-made, I would spend on the lower end.
  • I'm having mine made at cribbedding.com

  • I couldn't find a bedding set I liked enough to spend the money. We registered for separates at BRU. For $100, we can get a crib skirt, bumpers, three crib sheets and two good blankets. We wanted basic/neutral so we can re-use them for a future kid.

  • And I plan on using the same bedding through toddlerhood

  • Thanks guys! Wow, there is a ton out there. So far I have any checked out Layla Grace and Babies R Us, but now I have Target and Wal-Mart pulled up and have just added JC Penney to my list! If you have more suggestions I would love to see them!

I don't want to spend too much, but I found a really inexpensive crib and dresser and might splurge A LITTLE on the bedding. But I will also need some sheet back up sets, there is a lot to think about here!

  • i've been trying to find sets for $150 or less.  though i love the 'penelope' bedding from PBK and just may break down and buy it if we find out we're having a girl tomorrow :) i think i am going to go ahead and just buy it on my own rather than registering for it so i can get rolling on the nursery soon.

  • We found a cute gender neutral set at Restoration Hardware Child & Baby and it was on sale for $199 for the set. I used a 20% coupon on top of that so I feel like it was a good value and it is really nice quality.
  • I'm not planning on doing a prepackaged bedding set - it's just not my style.  I just won't use the bumper, quilt, and bedskirt (cribskirt?) so it's not worth it to me.

Instead, I looked at some for color/theme inspiration and then went from there.  I'm planning on crocheting his blanket, buying sheets, and if/when we set up a nursery (we're moving when LO will be 2 months old), I'll buy some fabric & make curtains or find ones that go with the general color scheme.

ETA: Buy Buy Baby has some really cute bedding patterns - they were my favorite to browse through, but since I wasn't buying I didn't look at the cost.  BUT, they do take Bed, Bath, & Beyond coupons.

  • I really like this one... I haven't purchased it yet because my mom told me that I can't buy anything for the baby until after Christmas.  So... if I don't get it for Christmas guess what I'm doing on the 26th???  :)

  • For something that will/was/is barely going to be used, I could not justify spending any money on it (ie. bumpers (shouldn't be used anyway in the crib), quilts, etc), so I just but a couple of cute sheets and spent extra dollars on Aden and Anais swaddling blankets - well worth the money.
  • I got a gender neutral set made by Kidsline @ BRU on clearance and using a 20% off coupon for DD and like some PP's mentioned it's sorta silly to spend $$$ on stuff that be used much if at all (quilt, bumpers, pillow, etc.)

The style was being phased out by BRU, so we managed to get the full set (bumpers which were put in once for "decor" reasons on her baptism day, other than that they sit in the bottom of her closet) sheet, crib skirt, diaper stacker and quilt,  and we also got the matching lamp, pillow, 3 window valances & mobile- probably spending around $200 for all of it?

  • I'm not getting a bedding set b/c I probably won't use the blanket or bumper in the beginning anyway. I LOVE dwell studio stuff so I'm just going to buy a few fitted sheets that I like from there (maybe later I'll get a set when the baby can actually use a blanket).

You said you were looking for girl bedding thats' modern/simple. I love these:

  • I did register for DD's bedding. MIL was awesome & bought it for us. It was just at $200. BUT, we didn't find out til week 32 w/ DD that she was a girl & my shower was at week 33 so I knew the bedding wouldn't sell out before my shower and figured if no one got it for me I would use some gift cards to put towards it or wait on the completion coupon. This time around my BFF is throwing me a "sprinkle" & asked me to do a small registry of items but it's seriously like $9.99 & under items (bottles, pacifiers, a blue sheet, blue changing pad cover). So I am buying the bedding myself this time around. But I found it (it's cutesy) at babymallonline.com for $39.99. Another good site for bedding is www.beyond-bedding.com I found DD's toddler set here. They have a nice selection and not everything is cutesy baby'ish. DD's toddler set was around $100. And something else to consider, toddler bedding sets cost less then crib bedding sets. If you have a convertable crib...everything is the same except you don't get a dust ruffle (which you can always buy seperate) and the blanket is larger so when your toddler can use it, the size is appropriate. You'll use sleep sacks for a long time probably anyways, I never once used the blanket that came w/ my baby bed in a bag set from BRU. If you don't plan on using bumpers I'd recommend checking out toddler sets. It seriously is about $80 cheaper for the same pattern at this site (for the set I picked).

  • $0.  We just bought accessories to decorate the room and we're just using crib sheets and maybe a crib skirt.
  • With DS I got a set through Target on sale for about $190. It was originally about $260. I was really disappointed with how the bumper held up. With DD I've been looking for ideas online but haven't found a set that I'm in love with. I'd like to at least find a quality bumper that I really like and can accessorize with. My mom can always sew me a cute crib skirt and curtains.
