Anyone still rear-facing?

All of my friends with children are moving them FF at 1, if not sooner. Am I the only one sticking to RF?

Re: Anyone still rear-facing?

  • I came over to post the reminder post below.  DD is actually 2 years old now and still RF.  She is in the 10% for height and isn't uncomfortable at all.

  • Still RF at almost 22 months.

  • We are. DD isn't even 20lbs yet. I'm in NO rush to switch her. She does fine in the car and doesn't konw what she's missing. :)
  • we are. And all my friends are FF...  not concerned about it though. It's safer, so that's what we do.
  • We just switched to FF because his legs were all scrunched up when he was RF & it just looked uncomfortable for him.  I wanted to keep him RF for as long as possible, but it just didn't work out for us.

  • We are still RFing, but I am thinking about moving him FFing when the snow hits. I have it in my mind that he will be colder if he is facing the frozen back windshield, and that the heat will take longer to reach him RFing. Not sure if that is the case or not, so we will see when it starts to snow. If he is still snug as a bug, I want to keep him RFing a bit longer.
  • DS is still RF.  He usually sits indian style or rests his feet up on the seat Big Smile.  It looks uncomfy to me but he doesn't seem to mind so he will stay facing backwards until further notice.

  • We're still RF at 18 months and will probably continue to be until she reaches the weight limit for RF. DD is just barely 20 pounds now.

  • Still RF at 23 months. He is happy as a clam, but will likely outgrow the height limit soon.

  • DS is 14 months and still RF but he is really scrunched up back there.  We are trying to hold out as long as possible but I think we are going to have to FF soon because his knees almost touch his chest.
  • yep, DD is still RF. I think lots of kiddos on this board are still RFing.
  • Zachary is still RF at 22 months.  We had to switch him to FF in DH's car last weekend because we realized he is taller than the back of his Britax Roundabout.  He only rides in DH's car once in a blue moon, so I'm not too worried about it.  He's primarily in my car (in a Britax Marathon).
  • I am!  His legs are getting scrunched, but he seems just fine with that.  And I'm definitely more worried about his neck than his legs.

He hates the car... but I don't think it would change if he were FFing.

Sometimes it's nice to get a reminder that other moms are still RFing when you feel like you're the only one.

My cousin was making me feel really horrible about keeping him RFing at Thanksgiving.  She just didn't seem to understand it.  FFing moms might get yelled at on this board... but a lot of times, it's the RFing moms that get crap IRL.

  • We are going to be rear-facing until DD hits the weight limit on her car seat.
  • DS is still RF. He's in the 5th percentile for height and weight and we'll be waiting til he meets the size requirements for the seat to flip it. It'll be awhile.

  • DS is 20 months and still RF ... no plans to turn him around anytime soon.
  • Yes, still rear-facing and will keep DS that way as long as possible.
  • I am. DD isn't even 20 pounds yet anyway (at this rate I feel like she'll be RF forever! lol)

  • We're keeping DS RF as long as possible. ?My goal is at least until age 2.

  • just barely 1 and is ounces away from being 20 pounds, so still RF for now.  not sure how much longer i can hold out.  i had the best of intentions to continue RF until 18 months (or longer), but she is really tall and i feel bad for her (she does not seem to mind, however).  we'll see how it goes.

  • DS is, and I'm planning to keep him RF until 2.

AMEN. ?Very few people IRL understand why I keep DS RF, even after I shared the info on my blog. ?Whatever. ?My kid, my choice.?

  • DS is still RFing at 18 1/2 months. We're keeping him that way until he hits the height limit, which he'll reach long before the weight limit.

  • DD is still RF at almost 17 months. She seems fine and will RF as long as it keeps working for us. I'd like to make it at least to spring RF so most of the snow is gone for the year.

We're still RFing at almost 23 months...but are also thinking about switching now that the winter weather has hit. We had a little bit of snow the other day, and there are already muddy bootprints on the upholstery of my brand-new Santa Fe! We'll have to switch her by summer anyway with #2 on the way b/c the seat won't fit RF behind the front seats. We have a Britax Boulevard.

  • Yes, our car seat is the Graco 32/32 and he is still within that.

  • Still rear facing here--will be until he's 2.
  • Yup, still RFing.  Plan on doing it until 2.
  • We are still RF and we plan to keep him that way until he is 2 or outgrows the RF limits on his car seat.
  • We are, DS is 25 months now and we're not turning him anytime soon.  He could care less and it works in our car so he'll stay that way.
  • I'm definitely hearing it from friends and my mom! they think it's insane that he's rear facing and think he's "missing out" on seeing the road. I've said, "UM. He's 1. He doesn't care about the road, and likes looking at his feet for now."

I emailed my sister a ton of info and she got mad at me for trying to force my opinion on her, when the APA says 20lbs. I was SUPER frustrated.

  • we're still RFing. i wish more moms accessed sites like these, they might learn more about topics they're uneducated on. i have tons of friends who don't know that RFing is safer. i think w/all info you can take or leave it, but there is an abundance of info to peruse on here, which makes us more educated in a sense. i'm keeping him RFing as long as possible. i'm worried he'll hit the height/weight limit before he's 2, and i'd like to keep him RFing as long as possible.

the AAP says RFing until age 2 is their current recommendation.

  • We're still RF and DD is 18 months today! She's a big girl (always top percentiles in weight and height). All my friends FF, but I'm just more comfortable with her RF and she tolerates it well. We'll probably be switching her in a few months.

  • Still RF at just over 20 months and will be definitely well into her 2s. She is bean though... just around 20 lbs and 18% for height, so no where near the limits. And yes, I do get a ton of crap from my friends saying she will be so happy when she is FF. She's happy now though and it's safer, so I don't understand the need to give me a hard time.
  • Penny is still RF at 20 months and I've got no plans to switch her anytime soon. She doesn't seem to mind having to bend her legs. Right now she is about 34 inches and 27 lbs, so I'm not sure if she'll outgrow the height or weight limits first. (35 lbs and 40 inches). If it is height we'll need to get her a new carseat anyhow, b/c it only goes to 40 lbs/40 in FF (Britax Diplomat)

  • Still RF.  I don't know if any of my friends IRL did / do extended RF.
