Anyone still rear-facing?

Re: Anyone still rear-facing?

  • DS will rear face until two years or until he is too big to do so.

Still RF at just over 20 months and will be definitely well into her 2s. She is bean though... just around 20 lbs and 18% for height, so no where near the limits. And yes, I do get a ton of crap from my friends saying she will be so happy when she is FF. She's happy now though and it's safer, so I don't understand the need to give me a hard time.

My response to anyone who gives me a hard time?

"Well, for me, his safety outweighs my convenience.  That's not important to everyone though."

No one ever says another word about it.

  • We will rf until 2 hopefully. DS is tall but I hope he will not outgrow his Britax before then

  • DS is still RF and I had every intention of keeping him that way for a while, BUT it's getting harder for me to get him in the carseat (in the middle).  If I move it to the side, it might not fit rear-facing - we're going to try it obviously - but if it doesn't fit, we could be switching sooner rather than later.

  • Yes we are.  DS is 14 months and only weighs 18 lbs.  But even after hes 20 lbs I am still keeping him RF

  • We were RF until 20 months.  DS hit the weight limit at that point so we turned him FF.  If he hadn't hit the RF weight limit, we would still be RF.

  • You are not alone! DS is still RF and we have no plans at this time to change that.
  • We are. DS is kind of a shorty but he just sort of puts his legs up on the sides of the seat. No complaints from him so we'll stick with it until he hits the limits of either the seat or his patience with the leg thing.

  • Yep.  DD#2 is still comfortable with it so we haven't turned it around yet.

  • Still RF'ing here.
  • Still RF at 14 months with no plans to FF anytime soon.
  • My LO is still rear facing.  She screams most of the time in the car, but we are trying to hold off on switching as long as possible.  All my friends and sister switched their LO to FF at 1 yr old.  Everyone has their differences.

  • DD RF until just past 2.5.

DD will be 2 tomorrow and will be RF for longer than 2.5. There are more seat options now for extended RF than when DD was 2.

  • DD is still RF at 16 months. I don't know anyone IRL that does extended RF though.

We're still RF.  DD is only 18 lbs.  So we've got a little while till she can even legally be FF.  In fact, we've still got her in the infant car seat, though we're installing the convertible this weekend.  With her snow suit, she doesn't really fit in the seat.

Is it a fleece type suit? If not, then that would be why she doesn't fit. Snow suits are not safe for car seats...

  • Still RFing for now.
  • Still RF and will as long as possible (well after 2, and hopefully till at least 3).  I don't get the people who FF their kids while admitting that RF is safer...I get that your kid cries, but are you going to let them play in the street later because they cry or ride a bike without a helmet because they cry?  My kid cried and I either pulled over and fed/changed her, or I cranked the stereo.  She's the kid, I'm the parent.  I get to make the rules.

  • WOW Yes there are a lot of ERFing mama's on here!

DS is 14 months and has no problem being RFing.  DH said to me last night "His legs are really squished back there", I just told him it's fine...better that then a broken neck if heaven forbid we get into an accident.  He is 27lbs but we plan to keep him RFing as close to 2 as possible!

  • Ben is 21 months and still RFing.  In fact, we just bought new car seats to keep him RFing because he reached the height limit on the Evenflo car seats that we had.  So, we have no plans to turn him anytime soon.  He's perfectly happy, so I'm going with it for now.
  • Still RFing at over 18 months.  The plan is until 2.  So far, so good.  No issues so we'll keep her this way for a while.

  • DD is 18 mos and still RF.
  • DS is still RF.  at the very least i want to make it through winter since driving here can get pretty dangerous...if he hits the limits before then, we'll obviously switch him sooner.  he's about 27lbs now and his legs are crunched up against the back seat, but he can still get comfy, so as long as he'll tolerate it he'll continue to RF.
  • All my friends and family think I'm crazy but DS is still rear facing too.
  • I'm so late to this post, but....we are still RF at 15 months and will until around 2ish.  DD is in the 20% for weight and is only 20 lbs now.  I'm pretty lax about a lot of stuff, but things like car seat safety are VERY important to me.  Yes, maybe she would like it more, but quite frankly I'd rather be safe than sorry in the event of a car wreck.  I have a very close family member who lost a child due to his neck snapping and he was in a properly secured FF car seat when he was 1.5yo.  Maybe if it hadn't hit close to home I wouldn't worry so much, but like I said, I'd rather deal with the RF than regret not doing it in the rare case that something like this could happen.

  • DS is still RF and will be for as long as possible.  We had a major car accident with him in the car and I believe RF prevented major injuries.
  • DS is still RF and I plan to keep him that way until he reaches the height or weight limit or if it becomes unsafe in another way.  (a lady on my local's son figured out how to use his feet as leverage and pushed down the chest bar and wiggled his way out while she was driving!)
