Anyone buy journal's for the grandparents?

I was thinking, as a little side gift for Christmas, about getting all the grandparents books that they can fill out with specific info about themselves. I've found a couple online - The Grandparents Treasure Chest, From Your Grandfather/Grandmother. But I can't seem to find any in the stores, and kind of wanted to look through them first.

Any suggestions? Does it seem to cheesy? Not to be Debbie Downer - but 2 of my grandparents died before I was really old enough to get to know them. I would have loved to have this kind of 'gift' from them. I thought this would be a cool idea, but that may just be me.

I feel like someone posted something similar some time back. So if anyone has any feedback, I'd greatly appreciate it!

TIA
Kat

  • LOL!  I was the one who posted this earlier.  I found a bunch on Amazon and found the reviews really helpful.  I actually just got back from Borders in Eastgate and have it narrowed down to 2 choices.  I flipped through the ones they had and I really liked the layout and the questions in "Grandfather Remembers" or "Grandmother Remembers".  I also really liked "The Grandmother Book" but I didn't see one for Grandfather so I'm going to check online.  If I decide to go with that one and they don't have a g-pa version, then I also liked "From Your Grandfather."  We are planning on giving these to both sets of parents and I'm also sending one to my g-pa in FL and we are getting a set for DH's grandparents.  I only wish I knew about these before my mom's parents and my g-ma died.  I can't wait to read them and share them with DS.  They also have mommy and daddy versions, but I feel like I want to wait a few years before I tackle those.

  • Thanks for posting!!  I may do something like this for my parents.  I wish I could have done it before my grandma had passed away, but I probably wouldn't have thought to do this.  Honestly, a year ago I would have said that this is cheesy, but my grandmother just died this past January and in the days leading up to her funeral I had some quiet time with Ava and told her about my grandma... how she sent her ruffly diaper covers and socks as soon as she found out I was having a girl, how Ava's birthday was her half birthday and her birthday was Ava's half birthday, etc.  Ava was actually very silent and seemed to be listening to me while I was telling her this (not common for a 17 month old) and seemed to know that I was grieving.  I wish I had at least put my thoughts down on paper for Ava, and for Charlotte whom I was PG with at the time that my grandma passed away.  I even told Charlotte (in my belly at the time) that grandma knew about her, that we had told her that she was a girl and she was so excited to find out.  Anyway... definitely not cheesy.  I wish my girls could have known my grandma.

  • I am planning on getting my parents "A Father's Legacy" and "A Mother's Legacy" by J countryman - my MIL got one for my husband when DD was born and I really like it.

I agree its a great to have those little details of grandparents/parents lifes recorded.  My grandfather had a journal of his own and I love to go back and look at it since he passed away when I was young and I never really got to know him except through what he wrote.
