I read it as "dear" but ony b/c it was in a list of abbreviations when I first came on the nest. I hate it, though, and would never say it in real life. I like "darling" better, but wouldn't use that either. But it's just an abbreviation, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

I read it as Dear. I don't think it really matters, though, does it? It's an abbreviation. We can all read it however we want!
ETA: I actually have to ammend that. For DH - I read it as Dear. But when I write DS, I see it as "Darling".
