Do you have a carseat or base for each car?

We don't.  We got the Safeseat infant seat, and the base seemed easy enough to move around, so we've always just moved it around.

I just bought DS's convertible carseat, and I'm thinking we'll only need one. I really don't want to buy more than one.

Re: Do you have a carseat or base for each car?

  • we only had one base and one convertible.  DS never goes in DH's car...so we didn't see the point.

  • We do.  My car is small, and not very comfortable for more than me and DD with the car seat in it, so DH's truck is our family vehicle.  And we go enough places together that we didn't want the hassle of having to move the carseat back and forth.
  • we have two bases because i drop her off in the morning and he picks her up.  lugging the infant seat is bad enough (especially now while pregnant).   we're about to get the convertible seat and we'll be buying two simply because of the pick up/drop off situation.
  • We have one for each car as I drop off LO at daycare and DH picks up.  I don't want to have to leave the big bulky carseat with the daycare lady, then have to re-install it every day.

  • Moving the convertible seat isn't as easy as an infant seat base. You can certainly try to go that route, but I think the reinstall time for the convertible will annoy you.
  • Thanks Mrs.L.

I think I'm going to stick with 1 for now, and then if we get annoyed of reinstalling it, I'll buy another one (probably a cheaper one) later on when he outgrows the infant seat.

  • We had a base for every car, but we only have 1 convertible seat.  However, the mini-van it is in is "DS's" car.  Whoever has DS has the mini-van.  My DH has a job that is 2 weeks on/ 1 off, so for 2 weeks I drive the van primarily, then for 1 week he does.

  • We had a base for both cars when he was in the carrier.

Now we have two convertibles. I can't imagine just having one. DH is the main transporter to daycare but obviously i need a seat when I'm taking DS places during the weekend.

  • We only use one car for the kids. Whomever has the kids has the car with the seats. However, if we had to switch them I would NEVER get just one seat per kid.  I do play with lots of seats and install/uninstall lots of seats but only for purposes of testing the seats, puzzling them in, or installing them into other people's cars.

It's not *that* easy to switch a convertible seat and you couldnt pay me to do it more than occasionally for actual "have to switch" reasons.

  • When LO was in the infant car seat we had  bases in both cars. When he outgrew the infant car seat we bought 2 convertible car seats. I wish we hadn't because we recently downsized to one car. At least I didn't spend alot of money on them.
