We don't. We got the Safeseat infant seat, and the base seemed easy enough to move around, so we've always just moved it around.
I just bought DS's convertible carseat, and I'm thinking we'll only need one. I really don't want to buy more than one.
Re: Do you have a carseat or base for each car?
Thanks Mrs.L.
I think I'm going to stick with 1 for now, and then if we get annoyed of reinstalling it, I'll buy another one (probably a cheaper one) later on when he outgrows the infant seat.

We had a base for both cars when he was in the carrier.
Now we have two convertibles. I can't imagine just having one. DH is the main transporter to daycare but obviously i need a seat when I'm taking DS places during the weekend.
We only use one car for the kids. Whomever has the kids has the car with the seats. However, if we had to switch them I would NEVER get just one seat per kid. I do play with lots of seats and install/uninstall lots of seats but only for purposes of testing the seats, puzzling them in, or installing them into other people's cars.
It's not *that* easy to switch a convertible seat and you couldnt pay me to do it more than occasionally for actual "have to switch" reasons.
