I am finding it hard to believe that seriously out of all my immediate cousins that are all over 21 that I am the ONLY one that is no longer living with my parents! I went to college when I was 18 and except for summer break I have never moved back in with my parents. I worked 3 jobs when I graduated but I was determined to make it on my own. Three of my cousins are over 32, live with their parents, have jobs, and pay NO rent. One of the cousins at home still gets woken up each morning by his mom to go to freaking work. I'm sorry I just don't get it.
Re: What age did you move away from home?
17. Went to college, and only returned home that first summer after freshman year.
I'm proud to have never been a boomerang child!
I moved out when I was 18.
DH and I moved into my parents house again when we were in our late 20s, but we were moving back to my home state and opening a business -- so it was sort of a temporary thing to help us get settled and on our feet.
I moved out ON my 18th birthday. I was totally fed up with my mom and she threatened to call the cops on me if I left any earlier.
I was roomies with my cousin for awhile, lived with an aunt for 6 months, but other than that, I have supported myself. Oh and I worked that entire time - my aunt insisted I stay with her until I could afford to live by myself after my cousin started having drug parties.
This. I moved into the dorms the day before my 18th birthday. I went home one summer after freshman year, and then never again. I also had a job (a pretty intense one) that summer.
Wow! I don't care how lazy I would want to be, I could not imagine still living with my parents if I had the option not to.
My parents are great people but I just can't imagine not having my own.

When I was 17, my dad was transferred to CA, and I stayed behind in our home state to finish my senior year of HS.
So I was a young'un. ?But I did move back home for one year after college between graduation and our wedding.?

I moved into college when I was 17 and went back home for breaks but when I was 21, MH ( then BF) and I moved into an apartment together and that was that.
edit- however after 3 yrs of being on our own MH decided to start his own business so we moved into his parents basement. we lived there for almost 3 years but we saved enough money to get married go on our honeymoon, buy a house and have a baby. we even paid them rent as well.
went away to college at 18 and lived at home during the summers.
Moved home after graduation for 5 months then moved out for 8 months. Moved back home after leaving my ex who I was living with. Lived at home again until I was 27. So officially out at 27. I thought about moving out earlier, but wanted to save as much money as possible (especially since I lost money when I left my ex and my condo
)
I went to a local college for my Associates, so I moved out when I was 19, no, 20? and went into the dorms, then my own apt. Came home for summers between jr/sr and after graduating, and HAD to get out.
DH (then BF) and I bought our first house when I was 22.
When I went to college and never went back.
I moved out when I was 24. I did go to college full time and worked part time but the college was near home so there was no need for me to move out. For me, 25 was the cut off age limit when it was time to move out. I did not want to be the 25 year old still living with her parents.
Both my older brother and sister moved out when they were 18 and both of them had to move back in at least once. I never had to move back in and I think it's because I waited to get my life in order and to finish college before moving out.
I moved out when I went to college at 18. There is no way my parents would have let me stay at home, or come back, without paying rent. We grew up knowing that was the deal -- when you're 18, you're an adult and are expected to figure out how to take care of yourself.
That said, my parents were willing to pay whatever it took to finance college, so although I paid for a lot of it, I wasn't completely on my own there.
I moved back in with my parents just after college because I owed a ton of money in student loans and credit cards. I lived with them for a year, worked my butt off to pay down some debt and save money, then moved to Florida when I was a few months shy of 23 (I graduated from college at 21). I've been on my own since.

LMAO, i agree
I moved out and got my own apartment when I was 18. The place was over top of the flower shop that I worked at in HS, I was very friendly with the landlord/owner and he gave me a great deal on rent. And since I was working full time, I could afford it.
I lived on my own for a year and a half and then moved back home to pay off some bills and save $. Shortly after that, I got pregnant with my daughter and stayed at home (I was a single parent) until I was 27, when I left and bought my first house.
