I'm still at my pre-pg weight and haven't gained anything. I lost some weight in my first tri but only about 5lbs or so. When does the weight gain really kick in? Is it normal to not have gained anything so far? When I had my 12wk appt, the doc said I could only gain 10lbs but if I'm eating healthy then she isn't too concerned. Would you be worried though?
Re: Still haven't gained a pound...Normal?
What? Your Dr. told you that you "could only gain 10lbs"? That sounds crazy to me.
I've only gained a few pounds, and my Dr. isn't concerned, but she also would never say something like "you can ONLY gain...." This just doesn't sound right at all.
it depends how overweight she is.
I think she meant it in the way that if I "end up" only gaining a little bit of weight it would be okay as long as baby looks good and I'm eating healthy. I don't think she was restricting me in any way

Really? But even if someone is overweight, 10lbs just sounds really low... aren't most babies themselves between 7-8? I guess I'm just clueless.
This. I am not what you would call "ideal" to begin with.
I was just going off what you wrote.... but ok...
i only gained 15 with dd2. and i was not that overweight. she was 7.5lbs ::shrug::
I don't quite understand it either, but my pre-pg weight is 180 and my goal is to stay under 200, so that is 20lbs. I would be okay with that.
that sounds perfect, imo.
good luck
I believe she was using 10 as an example. She honestly doesn't seem as concerned about my weight as I am.
My weight has been consistent throughout so far so the dr today said he wasn't worried as long as I was eating healthy. I wouldn't worry too much - I lost weight in 1st tri as well, but overall haven't gained much of anything yet.
I was just curious, that's why I was asking. I'm sure your Dr. knows best!

thank you!
I didn't take it personally
I wasn't very clear in my original post either so I see where the confusion came from.
With Jack, I didn't gain any weight or show until 20+ weeks.
lol, this time I'm already up 9 pounds!
both my GP (w/a specialty in bariatric medicine) and my OB tole me to only gain 10 lbs. i'm not saying the OP has a long-time weight issue, like i do. but it is perfectly okay for a larger woman to not gain the weight that the average or smaller sized woman gains during pregnancy. in fact it is healthier for the baby if i am not gaining like the average or smaller sized woman.
I am still down 10-12 pounds overall. My dr hasn't been concerned and the baby was a normal size on the ultrasound. Dr said usually after week 20 is when weight gain accelerates.
I worry about it to but try not to. Just eat healthy!
I just wanted to say I LOVE the name Carter James. We are definitely using James for a middle name and I was tossing around the idea of Carter for a first name, I think it's such a good combo!
