Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Does your baby watch TV?

Originally I thought I would never let my baby watch TV but that has changed. She has been scooting since 4 mos and crawling since 6 mos. Now she she never stops. Ocasionally she will agree to be in her jumperoo or exersaucer but mostly she just wants to be able to move. One day we turned on Yo Gabba Gabba that is available on demand. She loves it! So ocasionally I turn it on so I can clean the kitchen or make dinner.  Oh the guilt....

Re: Does your baby watch TV?

  • There are some days where I wish dd would watch tv just for a few minutes so I can shower but she's just not interested in it.
  • Loading the player...
  • DD is the same way, I put on Barney  OnDemand so that she will stay in her exersaucer if I have to shower while she is awake and dh isn't home. I tried playing music one day instead of the tv and she screamed bloody murder.

  • My DS loves the direct tv baby channel. I have no problem letting him watch for an hr in morning and little in evening when he winds down. I believe he has gotten a lot out of the shows. He loves when I sing the songs etc....
  • Kate and Callen should date.  Once he started moving he never stopped.  I can't get anything done.  So I will keep Nick Jr or Sprout on as background noise when I am trying to clean or do laundry.  Callen also loves Yo Gabba Gabba and I find it totally creepy!!

  • 11.5m and no tv.  I don't think I could slow the LO down if I tried.
  • Yup... about a half hour or so a day.  He loves Backyardigans, Barney, and Sesame Street.  Sometimes I just need to get something done and he is okay with watching tv for a bit while I can cook, clean, or do laundry.  We try to keep the tv off for the rest of the day, so I am not too worried about it.

  • My kid will nearly do an Exorcist-like head turn if she hears the opening measures of the Elmo's World song.

  • I put it on so I can take a shower.  I usually try to take one when she naps, but if I have to be some where at a certain time I have to do what I have to do.  I don't think it's that big of a deal in moderation.

How funny! You have to admit those songs get stuck in your head.  I  couldn't stop singing "Party in my Tummy" at work last week.  If we say Yo Gabba Gabba she looks at the TV.  She loves to dance to the songs.

  • I was so anti-TV for them too.  I don't even remember exactly how it happened, but somehow in desperation an episode of Sesame Street got put on and we've never looked back.  They watch it every day (one hour).  I DVR it and usually put it on after their breakfast so I can have mine and clean up, etc.  I would die without Sesame Street.  It's educational and seriously, they love it.  LOVE IT!  They bounce and clap and squeal when they hear the opening song.  I grew up on Sesame Street and don't consider myself worse for the wear.  So, I try to let it go that I put the TV on for them too.  Plus, sometimes they ignore it and play, so it's not like I'm propping their eyelids with toothpicks and making them watch it, KWIM?  :)
  • He loves it, around 4 months I turned on Spongebob by total accident and that stupid song caught his attention, he was mesmerized, he watches a little TV daily, he really loves the movies Shark Tale and Finding Nemo

  • Yup.  She loves it.  Part of our night time routine when she was 3 months or so was bath, bottle, baseball game.

DH will also let her watch Sesame St. in the morning.

  • Nope.  The TV is sometimes on when he's in the room but I turn it off if he starts to watch it.  He just crawls around while I work or I'll put him on my back if he's not happy doing that.
  • Yes.  DH watches the news for a little bit in the evening and she'll watch that.  I put cartoons on if I need to shower.  I admit I've also put on a Baby Einstein video to get her to nap on her fussiest days.  I don't think she ever watches more than 30 - 45 min a day total.

  • My DD did not watch any TV at all until I had DS when she was 23 months old.  Now she watches about 30 minutes a day while I put him down for nap and bedtime.  She adores the television, but I don't like how she is so captivated by it.  She also gets really whiny/demanding to watch more and it is the only thing she is like that about, so I really try to limit it.  It's scary how much pull that electric box has!  I know, because I am a total tv addict :)  DS is 7 months and does not watch any TV at all.  I am sure he'll watch sooner than 23 months just because he has an older sister, but with one kid I never needed the TV as a babysitter.  With 2 under 2, I definitely did/do!
  • She could not care less about what is on the TV... Isabella has a few favorite shows that I was sure would occupy Olivia when I needed to get suff done, but I can't make that girl look at the television!

I'm sure it will change soon, but right now she does not.

  • My DD will watch for a few minutes, then moves on to the next toy :)  She LOVES Wonder Pets! and Yo Gabba Gabba...  She also loves to watch America's Funniest Home Videos.  She laughs and claps when the audience does.  Hilarious....
