Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Reflux mommas

How long did your LO continue to spit up? DS had virutally stopped for a while, but now is back full force. I'm starting to worry--he doesn't eat much at all and spits up constantly--it varies from clear to full food spit ups. I'm not sure what to expect at this point. At his last pedi appt he had lost about 1/2 a pound, but the pedi wasn't worried since he had been sick. I'm not so sure now. Is this normal or does it warrant a call to the gastro?

  • DS was on Zantac for about 3 months (I think).  We forgot to bring it when we went away overnight and he did great so we stopped it and he was fine from then on.  Have you made any recent changes in diet or meds?

  • My GI said around 6 months it is not unusual to have a little flare up since that is when they are getting more moblie, sitting up and rolling around.  I guess that can put a little more pressure on a fragile system.  We medicated until 7 months.

I would take him in just to check.  Good luck!

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress.  Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage.  Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm.  27 days in the NICU.  Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely.  My tough little cookie.

  • DS is still on meds at just over a year.  I don't for see him coming off meds anytime soon.  It is normal for them to ebb and wane with spit-ups.  DS had almost completely stopped spitting around 9-10 months.  He still refluxes- just swallows it back down instead of coming out.  However, over the last week he's spit up more than he had in the previous month.  If your LO is down on eating, his spitting up more and already lost weight even due to illness, I'd  put a call into the GI.  His meds might need to be adjusted.

ETA: S/O - DS just woke up because he had spit up all over.  I love when he refluxes out of his nose in the middle of the night.
