TTC After a Loss

Set me straight

Ok, so some of you know from my post this morning, I got a BFP yesterday, but I started cramping and spotting.

I called my OB's officed to try and get in for betas either today or Monday because my NP said she wanted to see me ASAP when I got a pos. test again so we could start betas and progesterone supplements.

The lady on the phone said the earliest appointment I could get was Wednesday, and then transferred me to a nurse.  I asked the nurse about coming in for betas and the Rx and she said no to the betas because "they can't do anything if there's something wrong anyway" and no to the Rx because the other Drs in the office wouldn't perscribe it until 16 weeks and I must have heard the NP wrong and I need to "just wait" to get the pg confirmed by the office on Wed.

Am I wrong to be miffed beyond belief?  I dunno, I just thought that they'd show a little more compassion towards me when I mentioned the spotting now and my previous m/c, and they didn't seem to care at all.

I'm contemplating switching offices to a MW practice at a birth center attached to a hospital.  It's a 30 minute drive, and I don't know if they take my insurance yet or not.  But, I'm going to call Monday and ask about the insurance.

I hate that I didn't get betas today.  I know they don't change the outcome of things, but it would have been nice to at least get *some* type of baseline for next week.

WWYD?

Re: Set me straight

  • When my OB wouldn't request betas I just called my GP and he did it for me. I don't know if that might be an option for you...

to me it sounds like one of those big OB practices that have too many people working at them and too many patients and this causes a huge lack of communication and no personal attention.  I would definitely look into the MW practice, and I really hope they take your insurance and you can get in for betas on Monday!

  • I am so sorry that you are receiving that type of care.
I had to switch from the OB who handled (or did not handle) my first M/C
    I say switch

  • I'd call your GP and see if they would do it for you, and begin looking for another OB. I had a similar situation with my old OB and switched two months after my m/c.

  • I'm so sorry they're being ridiculous like this.  They should have at least done bloodwork for you either way.  Dr's offices just don't get it.  Why don't they get it??  Ugh.  I'm mad for you!!!  If you care to pay the ER copay you could always go there and say you're pg and bleeding.  They'll run a beta for you, but I don't know about the progesterone (my hospital doesn't).  But at least you could get a beta.  I dunno.  I'm sorry you're dealing with this hun.  I hope everything works out and you're little one is just burrowing in there nice and strong. (((hugs)))

  • How annoying!  I would definitely try to find another OB and try your GP in the meantime for betas.  I may be mistaken, but I thought typically you started progesterone as soon as you get a BFP and take it during the 1st tri.  My OB said he would start me on it as soon as I called for b/w.  16 weeks definitely doesn't sound right to me.

  • Thank you, everyone.  I can not wait for Monday morning.

I use my OB/MW as my GP as well, so I can't go that route.

If the spotting increases over the next day, I may just go to the ER.
