Babies: 0 - 3 Months

So for next time-weight gain

Whenever we decide to have another baby, I'd like to know how to NOT gain 50 pounds like this time.  Seriously, I was constantly starving and didn't want to ignore the feeling because I thought that might be bad.  I made good choices most of the time.  I just ate more of everything.  I'm not loving this extra 20 pounds I have to get rid of now.

Re: So for next time-weight gain

  • I agree!  I still have most of my weight to loose.  Ugh!

  • Agree!  But I felt starving all the time and had to eat!
  • I gained 23 lbs during my pregnancy and this is how I ate (sorry if you did all this and it still didn't work.)

    - I always made sure to eat breakfast every day and it was usually a high fiber cereal.

    - I'm a teacher so during recess I had a high fiber granola bar.

    - Lunch usually consisted of Lean Cuisine and even though the sodium is high (but lower than other frozen dinners) I made sure to drink a crapload of water.

    - Whenever I felt like snacking I usually ate a lot of fruit, yogurt, cheese/crackers.

    - Dinner was usually home-cooked meals.

Up until Month 8 I walked for about an hour at least 3x a week.  I always drank water and splurged very little.  I think the major thing that helped keep things in perspective was to not fall into the "I'm eating for two" trap.  Technically you're NOT eating for two because whatever you eat the nutrients go to baby.  I find that a lot of ladies think being PG is license to indulge in all the things they kept away from and then they go nuts.  I've always been a big advocate in moderation and not depriving myself of things so I really didn't have a lot of things I was dying to indulge in while PG.  I always kept in mind that eventually I would want to lose the weight so the less I gained (in a healthy manner of course) then the less work I had to do!

I've always been a healthy eater and my habits changed very little plus I exercised until about 38 weeks.  And yet I gained 45 lbs

  • Me too, I gained 50 lbs and still have 25 to go and feel so fat. But I totally ate crappy, I ate alot of sweets. Next time I wil not indulge so much.
  • EXACTLY what I told my DH last night.
  • I gained 37 lbs and definitely didn't need to gain that much-- I ate pretty badly, especially toward the end! I think I'm going to tape a picture of myself at 36 weeks (the week I delivered) on the fridge next time I get pg as a friendly reminder to reach for the carrots instead of the cookies :) Luckily, I dropped 21 lbs the first week and have about 14 to go.... it's slowly coming off! The exercise is finally starting to pay off.
