Working ladies-when did you stop working?

Don't ask me why I am thinking about this now (maybe cause I don't like my job?) but when did you stop working? I do have a 35 mile commute (each way) so I am thinking I will start to be uncomfortable. I am due April 30th so I was thinking April 10th or so.

Once I get to work ( I work in a office) I should be ok. Just curious again.

Thanks!

Re: Working ladies-when did you stop working?

  • My first day of maternity leave was yesterday.

  • I'm working to my due date. I commute 20 miles each way.
    2 girls and a dog
  • I'm planning to work right up until the end. I have a 45 min - 1 hr commute, but I have an unpaid maternity leave.
  • My last day in the office will be Dec. 18 and I will be 38 weeks.

  • I'm two days away from my due date and still working, and planning on working through my due date but then i'm done!!!
  • I will be working until I go into labor. Provided I don't have any complications between now and then (bedrest, etc.) And I work an office job.

Now, if I worked somewhere more labor intensive, I would probably cut back a little and maybe start my leave a week early.

  • I am still here and haven't quite decided when I am going to start leave.  I have the cold from hell and am tired and grouchy so part of me wants to call it quits after my OB appt today.  The other part of me wants to stick it out until I actually go into labor to save my pto time for after LO gets here.  Guess we shall see at 4:30 today!
  • The plan is to work up until the bitter end. Hoping it works out that way, I work with 22 males and want to hear them freak out when I call over the radio asking for someone to come cover dispatch because my water just broke. Haha
  • I'm still working, and no plans to stop until I go into labor.  I have a 30 mile commute each way.  I would rather spend my leave time once baby is here.
  • I'm still here.  I'll be here until LO is born.  Eff.

  • with DD #1 i worked right up until i delivered.  i started contracting on a friday so i took that day off and then had her on a saturday.
  • I wanted to use as much of my leave with LO as possible so I was planning on working until I went into labor.  My doc put me on bed rest at 38 weeks.  Honestly I was ready for it by then.  I was starting to get uncomfortable at the end of 37 weeks.

  • I plan on working until just a few days until my due date. I also have the time unpaid, and would rather spend it with my baby boy.  I will see how that works out though. The bigger I get the more uncomfortable sitting at my huge desk is.

  • My leave will start at 38 weeks. I get short term disability for four weeks before my baby is born, so I'm only leaving 2 weeks before, in case he's late.

  • I am still working my regular hours plus a bunch of over time. I commute over an hour each way.

My last day is this Friday, so I am taking 2 days as sick days next week, if not for them I would be working until my due date or until LO would arrive, which ever is first.

  • I'm still working and plan to until the baby comes.  I want to save as much time as she can for when she is here.
  • My last day is this Thursday at 38w1d. Woohoo!!!!

  • With DD I worked up until I was in labor and planning on doing the same this go around.
  • I have an hour and a half commute each way... I will stop working at 36 weeks.

  • Will be working my FT job til I burst (work about 3 miles from the hosp.) Will stop working my PT job at 37 weeks.
  • I can only take up to 10 weeks of maternity leave so I'm saving it for once LO is here. So, barring any bed rest, I'll be working until I deliver.

  • As long as I can.  I plan to work until my due date/go into labor.  However, I work in an office as well and I might as for a few work at home days in the end.  You might want to see if your employer would consider this.

  • I have been on Maternity Leave since 20 wks.  It is a work enforced policy.  I have been very lucky with a healthy pregnancy.

I have been really lucky with time off!!  I dont know how you girls do it.  Working until the bitter end.

  • I plan to work until I go into labor. Thankfully I telecommute from home, so it's not particularly physically taxing for me to work.

  • I have totally been wishing this week that I could start my maternity leave now. I'm soooo not in the mood to work. I want to be home cleaning and getting everything ready for baby. I also want to be relaxing and being able to take walks on these last few nice days (sometimes only hours) before baby comes. Man I wish I could take off early!!!

  • I will work up until labor begins. Last time I worked until the day before I was induced.
  • I commute 1.5-2 hrs each way, and am working up until Thanksgiving (due the Monday after).  I asked my Dr. if I should stop working earlier due to my commute, and she said it's really not necessary, since things will not likely happen very quickly once I start having contractions.

I'm 36 weeks now and the commute really isn't that bad, as long as the ride doesn't go over 2 hours.

  • My last day is three work days before my due date (12/18; due date is 12/24).

I would love to take off more time but I'd rather do it when the baby is here.

  • My due date is January 8th and I'm planning to work through December 31st.  One week at home (should LO arrive close to the EDD) is plenty of time and even though I'll be off for 6 months, I don't want to use much of my leave before he even gets here.

  • With DS, I was due Jan 29, and I'd planned to work up until he decided to make an appearance. By Jan 21 or so, I was SO uncomfortable and tired, that I decided to work from home. I went into labor on maybe my second day at home.

With this baby, because I'm not going back after she's born, I think I might start my leave at about 37-38 weeks. I hate it here and don't really see the need to bust my butt when I'm miserable.

  • My plan was to work until the last wek of January (my EDD is 2/4/9), but the more I think about it, the more I want to work as long as possible. My job only pays for 6 weeks maternity leave, so I don't want to start that time too soon. I want to stay home as long as possible. We also have to use our sick.vacation time (depending on the disability status we chose, I chose 7 days) for 7 days before disability kicks in. So I get a total of 7 weeks.

  • My due date is December 11th...that's my last scheduled day of work.
  • My last day was 39w3d and I had my babe at 39w4d. It was a Saturday. I was working til the end.
  • I worked until 36 weeks, in California you can take off 4 weeks before your due date and start receiving SDI. IT is a use it or lose it type of thing, you cannot use it after the baby is born.
  • I will be working until my water breaks!  I'm a teacher and don't have much for time off and don't want to use any days until baby gets here.

  • I plan on working until I go into labor, I work an office job IN this hospital I'll be delivering at.. and I live about 5 minutes away..

I chose to work past my due date if needed this time because with DS I sat around for a week waiting and waiting, AND using all my PTO!

  • I'm working up until the Friday before my due date, which is only four days.
