I will be working up untill I go into labor. I have a 1 hour commute each way. I know I will be uncomfortable, but want to save as much time off as I can for when baby is actually here.

i was planning on working till the end but it just got to exhausting. I worked until 38 weeks and I haven't been back since. I'll plan on going in for a half day and then i won't sleep worth a darn at night and know that my head just won't be in it. My boss is very understanding and i don't want to go in and make foolish mistakes b/c of my lack of sleep. Just go with the flow. What I have learned during this pregnancy is you can't plan for much. Your body and your baby dictate everything.
With unpaid maternity leave and fear of being overdue, I'm working as long as I can so I get the most time with DD when she's an outside baby. I'm trying to be a trooper but I have a horrible cold, hurt from boobs to knees, and wish I could just stay in bed. I'll see what my o/b says on Thurs- I might make next week my last...
I hope to work up until it's go time...I commute 10 minutes to/from work and the hospital is half-way between my house and work (5 minutes). Here's hoping I can stand sitting at my desk 8 hours a day when I am 37-38+ weeks!
The plan is to work up until the bitter end. Hoping it works out that way, I work with 22 males and want to hear them freak out when I call over the radio asking for someone to come cover dispatch because my water just broke. Haha
Love the way you think. I work in construction and am hoping for a similar scenario!
I commute about 60 miles each way (about an hour and 15 minutes). I was planning to work up until I went into labor. My doctor nixed that at 37 weeks due to a clotting disorder. She wasn't comfortable having me that far away or driving. After the stress of getting all my work wrapped up in 4 days instead of 3 weeks...it's been nice being home. I hit a wall at 38 weeks and it's been nice to be able to relax. Twice weekly NST appointments are much easier too!
I'll be 37 weeks, but that's mostly because I would be off for Christmas break anyway. I think if Christmas didn't fall in there, I'd probably plan to start my leave around 39 weeks.
I work about the same distance away from home as you as a teacher...so always on my feet and my mind always having to be on the go. I stopped working at 38 weeks 5 days. I thought I could last a bit longer, but no go for me.
My work offers short term disability for maternity leave... so I am stopping 2 weeks before my due date (because there is a 2 week waiting period)... and after the baby is born I get 6 weeks (so a total of 8 weeks). I figure the 2 weeks before will be great for catching up on house cleaning that needs done or just for resting before the big day. If I go into labor earlier, the 2 week waiting period is waive as soon as I am admitted into the hospital.
You might want to talk to HR and see what they offer, too.
My last day of work will be 11/15. I will be 38w3d. I cannot wait; I have a very physically demanding job, and it's become extremely uncomfortable at this point.
I stopped working at 30 weeks per my OB's orders. I work in ERs/ Urgent Cares and am around a lot of positive H1N1 patients. My company had no other job for me to do (I work in sales), so I am on unpaid leave... bummer but not worth the risk to me and DH. Especially with the Dr telling me I should not be working in that environment.
I stopped at 37 weeks. I have a 50 mile commute each way, and I have back problems and got shingles- my body was telling me to rest. I'm a bit bored now but getting stuff done slowly.
Re: Working ladies-when did you stop working?
I PLANNED to work up until my due date, but things did not work out that way. I've been off since 36 weeks.
