NBR: Anyone know a good recipe for chili?

I am in the mood for chili and cornbread and I've never made it before. If you want you can PM it to me or post it here. TIA!

Re: NBR: Anyone know a good recipe for chili?

  • DH made some AWESOME chili yesterday!  I don't think he uses an actual recipe though.  It was 1lb ground beef, a large can and a small can of tomato sauce, a can of tomato soup, 2 hot banana peppers, chili powder, sugar, and other spices to taste.  Add some fritos and cheese...YUM!!!

Honestly, now that I think about it, I think FI knows how to make chili... but I'm still game for other bumpies recipes. But your DH's recipe sounds good!

  • Google "Chilly Day Chili" thats the recipe I always use. Although instead of the other spices I use Tastefully Simple's Wahoo Chili seasoning. Soooo good. GL!
  • I use a lb of ground turkey, beef or bison, Cumin, chili powder, garlic, a touch of oregano, Salt, pepper, I cut up any veggies I have like bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, Grate up some carrot or zucchini , a can of beans and a large can of either crushed or diced tomatoes.

  • I brown 1 lb ground beef with a diced onion and 2 cloves of garlic (more if they're small cloves). Then, add 1 large can crushed tomatoes and a couple small cans of tomato sauce. Then, I add lots and lots of chili powder, and sometimes another spice blend (whatever I find on the spice rack that's peppery, garlicky, or something that sounds good with chili powder).

This is actually what we're having for dinner tonight. Smile

  • I make an amazing Chili (according to DH) that is great for when you're sick. I got it from Men's Health, it's called Flu Fighting Chili and I have tweeked it for DH (too spicy for me personally).

    1 whole onion, chopped
1 whole sweet green pepper chopped
    2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon soybean or olive oil
1 16-oz package extra-firm tofu, drained and crumbled
1 1/2 cans (19 ounces) kidney, pinto, or white beans
    1 28-oz can stewed tomatoes
    3 medium carrots, sliced
    2 tablespoons mild chili powder
    1 teaspoon cumin
    1 teaspoon hot sauce
    salt and pepper to taste

    The things I changed are:

1 lb cooked Ground Turkey instead of tofu

1 can Chili Beans not drained

    1 can Kidney Beans drained

    1 can Black Beans drained

And precook the carrots about half way before adding to the chili or else they tend to end up too crunchy. I bring it all to a boil then let it simmer on low for an hour or so. Also doing additional spice dumps every 15-20min if you like it extra hot really makes a difference. I make this when DH starts feeling sick and it will kick a cold or sinus infection out in two days!

  • My Chili is super easy

Brown 1lb Hamburger with 1-2 Onions.

    2 Cans Diced Tomato

    2 Cans Tomato Soup

1 can Chili Beans (recipe calls for 2, but depends on how much you like beans.

    Seasonings to Taste

I usually make this in the crockpot, but I'm sure it would be fine on the stovetop.
