I just had my 28 week appointment, complete with all of the GD and Rhogam fun. Turns out my doctor's office does a cervix check at 28 weeks. I wasn't prepared for that, but I'm really glad they did. She said my cervix is still closed, but the baby's head is down and engaged in the birth canal. She said he's lower than they would like him to be at 28 weeks and I should take it easy, stop exercising, stay off my feet whenever I can, and watch for contractions, pressure, etc.
I'm a little freaked out. I haven't done any research or reading yet on what happens as you get close to labor because I figured I have so much time left. So I feel like I may not have asked all of the right questions. She didn't say that I need to be on bed rest, so I assume it cannot be that risky right now. I did ask if I should be prepared for him to come early and she said not to worry, but that they generally suggest that everyone have the nursery ready by 32-34 weeks and your hospital bag packed by 36.
So, ladies -- two questions: (1) Has anyone else been told this? If so, what has happened since then? (2) Those of you who are farther along, what questions should I be asking to determine whether I'm moving toward PTL or not (I assume whether my cervix is softening)? Otherwise, I need to just figure out how to keep him in there for a while longer.
TIA!
Re: Baby engaged at 28 weeks - Should I be worried?
My son was engaged early as well. I went into early labor at 32 and 35 weeks and it was stopped both times. I was allowed to be induced at 37 weeks since my OB was shocked I even made it that long.
With this pregnancy DD feels like she is burrowing very low and I think she's getting into position but then I feel movement all over my belly later. So it is hard for me to tell. My 29 week appointment is today and I have no idea what to expect.
