Isabelle turned 3 in August & somehow I am still laying down with her for her to go to bed. I have tried several times to try to get her to lay down in her room by herself but it just isn't working. Now that she shares a room with Oliver (5months old) I can't send her to her room & have her scream b/c he's already sleeping so I end up laying down with her in my bed & then when she falls asleep we carry her to her bed. Once she's in her bed she's typically in it for the duration of the night but I just wish I didn't have to stop everything that I'm doing or that I need to do to get her to go to bed, most nights I end up falling asleep with her & then I don't get anything done! Any suggestions?

Re: How to get her to go to bed by herself?
One day I did something so simple, I said I had to poop, and she let me leave! It was something she could understand, I then had to change it to me having to shower or whatever.
This was after reading her regular bed time story and stuff, so we still had our routine but at least I didn't have to wait until she passed out anymore.
Good luck!
When my DS was 16 months old, I was trying to wean him from having to be rocked to sleep at night and did a gradual progression that worked beautifully for him. He never shed a single tear. I wonder if something similar would work for you? I explained to him the first night that I was gonna rock him for a few minutes, then put him in his crib and he was gonna fall asleep all by himself and mommy would fall asleep on the floor. We did that for 4 nights in a row (I left the room after I knew he was asleep). Then I told him, okay, I'm gonna rock you and put you in and I'm gonna sit right outside your door and leave the door open a little. We did that for 4 nights. Then I told him I'd do the same thing, but close the door all the way. We were home free after that. Good luck!
We are there but it's getting better. I have done what xb has done b/c the bathroom is right across from her room. i close the bathroom door and keep on walking and she falls asleep.
I also don't lay with her when I read her stories. I sit beside her on the edge of the bed. As much as I love snuggling, I pass out too and waste the whole night away.
After i'm done with stories, turn out the light, I move to the floor, then I move to the wall by her door and then i gradually get out into the hallway. The time keeps going down each night and I def had fears of living with her in her college dorm room.
