I remember reading some posts about putting some vinegar in LO's laundry in place of fabric softener. Does it just soften the clothes or does it reduce static? I need something to get the static out of LO's clothes. I bought Seventh Gen. fabric softener and Method baby softener sheets but they both said they can reduce flame resistance. If you use vinegar how much do you put in? Any other suggestions on what to use would be appreciated too.
Re: Vinegar in laundry?
If you use vinegar correctly it doesnt stink. We use it all the time instead of bleach. And we use free and clear detergent. I put it in the bleach thing in my washer. It works really well, I have converted my parents and they now use only vinegar and no bleach. It won't bleach like bleach does but it is a disinfectant and makes colors brighter. It actually removes smells from clothes. My friend does emergency foster care and uses it everytime she gets a new kid when she washes their clothes the first time.
I've used plain white vinegar in place of fabric softener for years for towels, sheets, dog laundry, etc and I've never had anything "stink." We're using All Free & Clear right now and have no issues with residual scent.

Vinegar does NOT make clothes stink when you wash with it. I use it to remove the "man smell" from my husband's towels. I've never heard of using it for a fabric softener though.
Why not just go with a better, all-natural detergent?
I love vinegar in my laundry.
I use it mostly for towels. Haven't used it for LO's laundry.
This exactly. If you're using a correct amount, it will remove all smells and will not smell like vinegar at all. I just fill it to the "fill" line, so I can't say exactly how much goes in there, but my guess would be around 1/2 cup per load (I have a large HE washer that holds "up to 3 loads" so that may make a difference too).
As far as static, everything I've read about that says that it helps, but it won't help as much as regular fabric softener or dryer sheets.. I do find it's better then nothing though and I don't need to use anything else. Winter is coming so we'll see how it holds up in the super cold weather...

I'm using Mrs Meyers baby detergent. I'll have to try it with the vinegar though and see if it helps. I was going to try the dryer balls but I saw something about them containing PVC
