Sbish pants - M or ML?

Harris would currently fit the M, but I'm wondering how long the length will last? How quickly do they grow in height from 7 months on? He's on the skinny side which makes him seem taller, but I think his height is average. Do babies go from the M to the L, or from the M to the ML typically? If the ML is a totally different size and the M should fit for a long time I'll just get the M.

I want him to be able to wear the pants around the house this winter, but imagine by 13-14 months it will just be too hot for pants.

Re: Sbish pants - M or ML?

  • I bought DS the ML this summer expecting him to grow into them by this fall.  Yeah he is still really short and I should have gotten the M.  The only difference is length.  I would say if the M do not give you any growing room in length than you should probably get the ML.

  • The M gives about 1.5 inches in the inseam, but maybe not if he has it on for nighttime (giant nighttime diaper). The rise on the M is 18 inches. With his GM, from the back to the top of the front his rise is 16 inches; not accounting for coverage of any of his skin above the diaper. That is not including his nighttime stuff. I may need to count the pants out for nighttime and just get them for daytime around the house. I'd just hate to get a size that will only last 2 months after spending so much.

If it helps, for "pajamas" we have to go up to 12 month size even though in daytime wear he could still wear a 6 or 9 month size.

I'm not really good with measuring for size. I'd rather just know that 6-9 month size is "this" or 12 months size is "that." Should the pants actual waistband fit completely above the diaper, or does the diaper come up within that last inch or so of waistband? I'm not sure how they are supposed to fit.

  • I bought M/L for a few reasons (one of which being I never thought I'd spend so much on longies and it was on Spots Corner, so I didn't have a ton of options).  I'm thinking of hemming them a bit  so it's not an issue, and just taking it down as DS grows.  I prefer the top of the rise on the longies to go well over the diaper, so the whole waistband above it, FWIW.

Based on this I'd say get the Mediums.  DD's growth (esp height) really slowed down after 7 months.  If you still have 1.5" in inseam (which shouldn't be affected much if at all by a nighttime diaper) then that should last a while.  Our mediums have been around for a couple of months now I believe and DD has just now grown closer to the inseam length so I don't have to roll them up anymore, but she still has some time left in them.
