I swear, this was the most oft-repeated advice I received before H was born--and at the time I thought it made perfect sense. But now that he's here it almost never happens. For one, my LO is not a great napper unless I'm holding him (and me sleeping while I'm holding him makes me nervous, so I try not to do it). Also, when I do manage to get him to take a nap somewhere else--mostly in his bouncer--it is my ONE chance during the day to get things done. And I know everyone says to let the housework go--and I do for the most part until DH is home on the weekends--but realistically there are some things that just have to be done. Laundry, for instance.
So I'm just curious how many moms of newborns actually do get a chance to nap when LO naps. I guess I'm hoping I'm not the only one who doesn't. ![]()

I did when I first had him.
I do now if he had a bad night, or if I'm just tired at the same time he's napping.
Most of the time I take one when DH gets home if I need to.

My BFP Chart
When DS was that age, I tried as much as I could to sleep when he slept. Often, I would put him in the moby before he was sleeping. Once he was asleep, I would lay down and nap with him still wrapped on me in the moby.
Now that DS is a little older, I do whatever I can get done around the house during one of his morning naps and try to take one of the afternoon naps with him snuggling in bed with me.
I feel like DS is only going to be little for a small amount of time, and I want to savor as many snuggling moments as I can.
A Pocket Full Of Dinosaurs
I will often nap with him during his morning nap - usually 8-10 or so and we'll sleep in bed together. In the afternoons I'll lay with him on the couch but I usually watch TV, read or go online during that one.
I've also found that I resist taking naps when he does because by the time I fall asleep, he'll be waking up and then I'll feel even more groggy.
While I was home, DD would wake up around 5 to eat, and then go down for another 1.5 hours or so. I used to sleep then. Any naps she took after that (which were maybe 20 min ones if I was lucky, an hour was a rareity), I showered, did housework, etc.). I'm not great about taking naps or falling asleep so I knew I would be more productive doing other things.
