Trying to Get Pregnant

You're saying it wrong

I have a co-worker who calls to say she's "checking bases" with me on this and that. It drives me nuts. I want to correct her but don't want to embarrass her. What are some sayings that people get wrong that drive you crazy?

  • My MIL always says "wizzing out" instead of "wigging out." I want to ask why are you peeing on the floor?

  • There was a guy that I used to work with that always messed up phrases/sayings.  I'd correct him and he'd INSIST that he was right.  Ugh.

    LOL

  • The only one I can think of of the top of my head is when someone says they "borrowed" something to someone.  Nope.  You lent, they borrowed.

  • My co-worker says 'rether' instead of whether and it is so obnoxious!

  • My boss is king of the typos. Here is a lovely example from earlier today:

    This e-mail was basically him arguing with me over whether to get 1 or 2 more recycling receptacles for the office:

    Ok.  Go with two.  If you can get a inexpensive can crusher, go ahead and we will mount it on the wall in the break room.  Cans can take up a tone a space.

    Drives.me.crazy. Worse yet, as a gag Christmas gift, all of us compiled all of the typos he had made and got a book bound and called it 'Hunter-isms.'

    He was pissed.

  • Idea vs ideal, and the biggest is Lie-berry (Library). People than can't say whole words or pronounce them correctly drive me crazy. I am from the south (originally) and I understand drawls, but come on people.
  • When people say SUNT instead of sent.

  • My MIL says salsta instead of salsa ... and that has rubbed off on DH and it drives me up the wall. She also says idears instead of ideas. ugh.

    My husband gets really cute sometimes when I get him all fired up and he says "Quit making frun of me" instead of "fun". He onlys says it that way in that particular sentence so that doesn't bother me. I just make frun of him even more.

  • I have a few...first is the use of "physical" instead of "fiscal" when discussing a financial year.  Second is the word irregardless.  I know this word is in the dictionary and is acceptable but it still drives me nuts...it's a double negative!  The last one is when people say "we can discuss this offline" in a meeting.  Seriously folks, I know what you're trying to say, but we were not ONLINE to begin with!

    Wow...I feel a little better now...  Big Smile

  • My boss says Cali-phone-ia instead of California. ?He did this in a presentation and I almost couldn't contain myself. ?My co-worker couldn't look at me cause she was almost in tears and I ended up coughing up a storm to try to stop myself from laughing! ?He also says con't instead of can't, but ever time we tell him this he vehemently?denies?it!
  • "Send the results to Mandy and I."

    Um, no, it's "to Many and me"....

    It's like people learned it was wrong to say "Mandy and me went to the store" and now they think they need to change it everywhere.  It's not that hard to remember, people... drop the "Mandy and" and whatever word you would normally use is the right one!

  • not really a saying, but my boss puts words that don't belong in quotes in quotes.

     example email from today:

    I found them in my "in box" and will probably give both of them, one for their home here and one for their home in California!

    why does inbox need to be in quotes? is there an alternative meaning to inbox that I'm not aware of... drives me nutty!

  • I live in PA, but I am originally from CA and people out here use the strangest words.  One that drives me nuts is "YOUS" as in "Do yous want to go out to dinner?" My BIL says it all the time and my poor sweet nieces are beginning to say it too! Another would be people calling the holiday that lands on February 14th Valen-TIMES Day! Are you serious??? I am such a stickler on grammar; it is my all-time pet peeve!

    I HATE THIS!!!! I see it everywhere on facebook. ?Like this is so-and-so and I... would you say "this is I"???? NO!!! This is ME! so it's so-and-so and ME!

    I also dislike when people don't use adverbs correctly. ?Like: Drive safe. It's Drive safeLY!?

    I think he thinks it's pronounced that way. Either that, or he knows he's saying it wrong and just doesn't care.

    He's one of those people that aren't always easy to correct too, just makes it worse that I can't point it out to him.

  • My BFF pronounces a ton of things wrong and it drives me nuts.  I used to correct her but she told me that she had to spend a lot of time in speech therapy even up through middle school because she had problems with pronunciation.  Now, I feel bad but it is still annoying!  Here is the short list.

    alvum = albumn

    flaucet = faucet

    brefas = breakfast

    counch = couch

  • I can't stand when people say seen instead of saw. example : I seen you yesterday at the store. Drives me nuts!

    guilty as charged. I know there's no second 'r' there but I still say it as if there was.  I really very rarely have sherbet though, so I don't say it wrong too often.

    LOL!  I think we share a BFF!  Mine says "brefix" (breakfast), "ax" (ask) and uses the wrong words and phrases all the time.  When I correct her usually just laughs and says "whatever"...but it's so annoying.

    Another thing I can't stand is when people say "I could care less" when they mean to say "I couldn't care less".  Think about it people.

  • My former boss and another woman I know both use the wrong tense of the word come.  As in, they don't say came.

    Them: "so the repair man come yesterday"

    I've never corrected either because I didn't want to point out that they were dumb.  They don't even come from the same state, but both are from really small towns.

  • MIL says things wrong all the time. Yesterday we went to dinner in a town named Asbury, she always calls it ASHbury. There's no h in there!

    Then at dinner she brought along chaps that DH had from a Halloween costume. She called them champs. When she told him she brought along the champs he wore for Halloween he just stared at her.

    When we correct her she always says, "Well however you say it" Lady, you're 64 figure out how to say things already!
