How did you get your pets? A gift? The shelter? Rescue? Pet store?
I got my black-and-white cat from a lady who worked in an apartment complex where I used to live. She found him and his sister behind a dumpster. She found a home for the sister, but didn't want to keep him because she already had three cats. The white cat I got from the parents of a coworker who would take in strays. They never got them fixed so they always had tons of kittens, and he was one of those kittens. They are the two sweetest cats I've ever known or had.
Re: A Survey: Pets (because I'm bored)
1 cat and both dogs were all from shelters. Henry (the cat) was found in a box in an alley with like 12 other kittens at like 4 weeks old. Addison (my boxer/pit mix) had mange so bad they were going to put her down. Thankfully some kind woman nursed her back to health (the pictures were horrifying). Rocco (Heize 57/pointer/dalmation mix) was born in the shelter.
Turkey (my 1 good pet and cat) was a foster kitten.

I like this question
We got our cat 5 years ago. My mom was renting a car at enterprise and the car she was renting she heard a noise in the hood. There was my cat about 4 weeks old all scrawny and alone. She brought him home and I feel in love with him right away. He's all black except a white patch on his chest and belly.
We got our puppy back at the end of june. A friend of a friend had an "accidental" litter of "Chiweenies" and they lived in an apartment and wanted to find these puppies good homes for free. When I went there I knew I wanted a girl. There was a boy and girl to choose from, I kept trying to get the girls attention but the little boy was very persistent and kept coming up into my lap. I knew he was the one and fell in love right away. He's a little over 4 months old now
IVF#3 brought us our miracle baby girl on June 26, 2012

We got our weim from a breeder. He is from the most beautiful litter of puppies I have ever seen. I really wish that we had gotten 2.
My mom and I got our dear deceased Jack Russell, Bailey, from a pet store. We just went in for fun. She was crammed in a tiny cage with her sister and we just had to rescue her from pet store hell. I have never loved a pet as much as I loved our Bailey.
For this child I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.

Success with #1 after Femara + Trigger + IUI
I personally rescued both my cats - Mocha was dumped on my college campus with his siblings, and Ditto was rescued with his mom from behind my father's store.
We got our dog, Ruger, from a breeder, but we will definitely be rescuing if we get another dog.

Mine is a rescue pup, from a rescue agency.
My grandmother died, and we were very very close and it was unexpected. I had been thinking about getting a puppy, and it was one way for me to heal and have a project. I adopted her a few weeks later, at 8 weeks old. She is a beagle/german shepard mix and is my baby!
a shelter....aren't they cute?

We got our 2 Mini Dachshunds from breeders.
The oldest was in somewhat of a puppy farm with 40 other dogs.
The younger dog was in someone's home where she was covered in fleas.
I like to think that we rescued both of them because their conditions were not that great at all.
ETA: DH surprised me with the oldest as our 1st anniversary gift.
I got my cat from a farm that had a litter they didn't know what to do with. They wanted me to take all of them, but I just took my little guy
Fun fact: My cat is a Texas native!
My BIL found DH's cat. He is an architect, and was turning a deli into a bar. The deli owners had gotten her to keep the mice under control and basically abandoned her in the attic. It was hot and dirty up there and the litter box was overflowing. He took her to a shelter to get cleaned up and the had to convince DH to take her, as BIL already had two cats. It took a couple of days to sell him on the idea, but now they are BFF!
We got our American Bulldog from a breeder when he was 7 weeks old back in 2006. He has been a great companion for me. We have been talking about also getting an English Bulldog female to keep him company. We were looking online this weekend, but haven't purchased one yet.
DH got Julie from a shelter before we met - he was always a cat person. She was actually taken, when he first found her, but he played with her anyhow. He went back a week later, and her adoption had fallen through so he got her.
We got Daphne and Apollo through a greyhound "adoption" group - but it is really a rescue group.
My DH rescued our golden retriever from the humane society. He was about a year old and had been found abandoned. DH and I had only been dating a week so the doq quickly became mine too. 10.5 years later he's still with us but I fear not much longer. Sad!

Suffering from moderate OHSS
We have a Jack Russell Terrier (and believe it or not, but he isn't hyper, he is actually a snuggle bug)
We got him from our neighbor, they asked us if we wanted a dog and gave us 2 to choose from. I chose Jack because he was shy and most people go for the more dominant dogs. I always say that we rescued him from the neighbors because they have 15 dogs 45 cats (which they keep in cages) 20 horses, 3 rats, some type of squirrel and rabbits. They only have 3 acres and their yard looks like a dump. I went into their house once, it was so disgusting I didnt want to even sit down, and it smelled so bad.
Now our dog isn't shy, he is well behaved, he is up to the weight he is suppose to be, he is just a complete different dog from when we first got him. Even the neighbor asks if he is the same dog because they can't believe how good he is doing. (I want to so badly tell them that if they got rid of some of their animals, then they would all do better)
Both of mine are from shelters.
Jack is almost 5 and he is a collie/sheperd mix. He is the most handsome dog in the world. He was our first puppy and when I laid eyes on him at the shelter, my eyes teared up. I knew right away he was the one I wanted. He's our 50 lb. lap dog.
Bailey is almost 4 and we think she is an Aussie/Jack Russel mix. She has the markings of an Australian Sheperd and the one blue eye, but the build and vertical leap of a JRT. She's about 30-35 pounds. DH fell in love with her immediatly and when we took her out of the cage at the shelter, she licked him non stop for about 10 minutes!
We got our cat from some friends who own a farm. Her mother died when she was just weeeee little, and they weren't sure she would live, so we tookher home and bottle fed her until she could drink and eat from a bowl. haha We named her Turd, because she's a fluffy little turd.
Honey- she's a mutt. A friend's neighbor was going to get rid of her because she "didn't have time" for a puppy. So DH brought her home to me one day as a surprise. And therefore Honey did not go to the pound.
AND! We are picking up our newest furbaby on Monday! We got her from a local rescue organization. Here she is on petfinder.com

Heres a picture of our Chiweenie "Bear", when we first got him and how he looks now
I dont have a picture of my cat at work, otherwise I'd post one of him too
We have 3 cats
Hobie is a purebred Maine *** and DH purchased him from a breeder.
I was given Coal when my mom's coworker's cat got loose and ended up with kittens.
Morley was found on the side of the road in a garbage bag with the rest of his litter and his parents. I adopted him from the rescue group that found him.

Lots of Luck to all of 3T/IF
We got Teddy at a reputable breeder. Not of the backyard variety.
We plan to adopt our future dogs at local shelters or through the "pets needing homes" section of the paper.
I got my oldest sheltie from a breed rescue in Delaware.
Then I was given my first border collie, that we just put down a few weeks ago, from my herding instructor who is a breeder. He had noise fear issues so he was given back to the breeder 2x.
Our 2nd sheltie was from a friend who was a breeder. I wanted one of her dog's puppies so bad I waited 2 years for him, but he is the biggest pain in the butt lol.
Our latest border collie I just rescued from the shelter in May.
Going forward all of ours will be from rescues since a rescue can excel at agility and herding just as well as a dog from a breeder.
watson we got from a pet store....we went near closing time and some of the puppies were already in the crates and were crying....so sad to listen to, so we bought watson and took him home!
bellatrix we found on petfinder.com, filled out the adoption application and got her!
I found Maggie Mae when I was 19 and working at my summer job. A trucker had abandoned her at a truck stop so I brought her home and named her Gus (thought she was a boy lol)
Tiko is from the Humane Society and was brought in from an abused home.
Family dog Tony was from a family who had a litter of Dalmatian puppies.
And I think we're going to adopt a boxer next summer!
OMG! He is so cute! I LOVE the ears! He would make me smile all the time!
Our first orange cat, Rascal, we got from a horse barn. Saw an ad in trading post for free kittens. He was our first pet as a couple.
Got our second orange cat, Peewee, as a bday present for myself. We adopted her from our vet.
Got Jake, our first chocolate lab, from a breeder.
Got Maggie, our second chocolate lab, from another breeder as another bday present for me.
Got Boo, our final orange cat, when we moved to our new house. She was in an abandoned house next door and was about 6 weeks old. We were going to give her away but she fit right in with the rest of our kitties.
My BFP Chart
We got our cat (Tuffy) almost 5 yrs ago from a Pet Store. She's our little baby so not sure how she's going to like being 2nd when we have our fist child...
I also had a dog (Sparky) from the time I was 8 yrs old that passed away 3 yrs ago this month and I miss her dearly... My husband and I want to have a dog but we are thinking of waiting until we have kids and the kids are a little older... And when we get a dog, hopefully we will get him or her at a shelter = )
We have 3 dogs.
Layla the beagle was first, 4 years ago. We got her from a friend of a friend. She was a pet store dog who was older and had been bounced to 4 different houses since leaving the store. She had some behavior issues/separation anxiety. The next stop was the pound, so we took her in. She is a wonderful dog.
Rotten Ralph the shih tzu was next just over a year ago. A friend's father is bipolar and adopted Ralphie from the pound in a manic state. When the inevitable depression hit and he was hospitalized, Ralphie was headed back to the pound. Since he is special needs (just about blind and very few teeth), I knew no one else would adopt him. So we took him. He is a very sweet guy.
Mini the beagle mix (I think dacshund) was found by the family of one of the Pets board gals walking down the freeway in Georgia. They tried to locate her home but could not. They fixed her (she had already had a litter by the looks of it) and transported her up here. We adopted through a rescue. She is definitely still a puppy, but we're working with her!
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!
