Stupid formula question ... sorry ...

Maybe I'm a complete idiot -- or can I blame it on sleep deprivation?  DH and I are still using formula for LO and we have the powdered kind. One scoop = 2 oz.  So we use 2 oz of water and one scoop of formula, shake it up, and vooooillllaaa!:  2.5 oz of formula.

Am I doing this wrong? I don't want the formula to be too weak or too strong or something. And I'd like to keep an accurate count of what he's eating at the moment ...

Er, anywho. TIA!

  • Yeah, I usually just pour the water first and add the powder.  I never worry about the amount afterward.  It's not really going to make a huge difference!  HTH

I didn't think so. But I look at it every time and go, "Why?" lol

  • No, that is normal :)  Most formula canisters will say something to the effect of "yields 2.5 oz formula when mixed" or something like that.  If you want to ONLY feel LO exactly 2 oz (3 oz, etc) premix 10-12 oz water with 5-6 scoops (the approprioate ammount) of powder in a larger pitcher and then use that through out the day to pour 2 (etc) oz only into a bottle.
  • You're doing it right! Don't worry about it. The powder will add a little volume to the mix, but it's compensated for in the instructions. No worries!

  • an ounce of water is a liquid measure, a fluid ounce

an ounce of formula powder is a unit of weight, no relation to the fluid ounce.  different things.

  • I would call that a 2 oz bottle....but maybe I am wrong.
