milk decrease at 8 months?

Has anyone used fenugreek (or anything else) to successfully increase your milk supply?  I am noticing a sudden decrease in milk supply...I am pumping twice a day at work and only ending up with about 6-8 oz.  I used to pump about double that in one pumping session!

I don't want to turn to formula yet, but only have 2 bags of milk left in the freezer stash......

Any ideas?

  • I'm not still BF but I did notice a supply increase when I used Fenugreek. Reglan worked even more, but it's a prescription.

  • Fenugreek works really well for me.  I just asked my LC if I can just keep taking it because my supply always tanks on the 3 days I work.  She said that was fine.  I take 9 capsuls/day.  Also tried reglan but if fenugreek works for you its much better than reglan which can cause depression
  • I had a dip around then. I made lactation cookies, took nursing tea, and added more pumping sessions. I started pumping in the morning right after feeding DD and then at night, about 2-3 hours after putting DD to bed. I never got back to pumping the same amount per session that I did early on, but I did see a boost and with the 2 extra sessions, I never had to supplement with formula.

  • Oatmeal and an extra pumping session a day work for me. Also, I normally only feed on one side per feeding, but when I notice my supply decreasing a bit, I make sure to feed from both sides for each feeding to stimulate more milk production.
  • i have had supply issues since the first week pp.  here are a list of the things that work for me:

    * extra pumping sessions (at LEAST every 3 hrs - it's exhausting, but it really is the best way to boost supply)

*fenugreek (miracle herb!).  i particularly liked the motherlove more milk plus blend - it's expensive, but has a lot of good stuff in it to boost supply.  fenugreek capsules on their own did a great job too though (i also took about 9 a day).

*drink lots of water.  i don't know why there is so much info saying that this doesn't help, because it always helps for me!

*nb nb nb: SLEEP!!!!  this is so vitally important.  if my supply has dipped, i try to to go to bed an hour or two earlier and then wake up in 3 or 4 hrs to pump.  it's a real pain in the butt waking up to pump, does wonders for supply too.

i wish you all the best in your supply-increasing indevours.  i know how frustrating it is to see a few ounces in the bottle at the end of a pumping session.  i'm having a similar issue atm, but i just found out i am pregnant again, so i think that might have something to do with it.
