NTR: Side Swept bangs - do you have them or what do you think about them?

My hair is just past my shoulders and I am trying to grow it out, but I need something that is more of a style. Also, for some reason, after having DD I had new hair grown around my hair line and I look like I have really thin bangs and they get in the way and look ridiculous. I try to slick them down with product. Right now it is just layered a little on the ends. I found some pictures of Nicole Richie (when she has short hair) and of Lauren Conrad (also with short hair) that I liked. I figure as I grow out the length they can become shorter layers in the front and not so much bangs if I want. Will I regret it??

ETA: post pics if you have any

This is an ugly pic of me, but I have a round face. I chose this one because you can see my faux bangs that grew on their own :)

Re: NTR: Side Swept bangs - do you have them or what do you think about them?

  • I have long hair, almost mid-back I guess, and I have super long bangs because I have a cowlick(??) up front and normal bangs don't work, so I side-sweep my long layered bangs, they're about to my chin. I really like how it frames the face, but I guess it could change from person to person. IE: I could never pull off normal bangs because of my hair yanno? I love Nicole's hair though :)

  • I got some bangs when I got a new haircut a couple of weeks ago. I'm regretting it now. I am just not used to having them and I feel like they're in the way.

  • I think it depends on your face.  If you have a larger forehead for example, I think they are very flattering.  Ask your stylist if she thinks your face will work well with them.  She may be love the idea, or she may suggest something else that will look better - if you have a good, honest stylist.
  • DD and I both have side sweep bangs.

I have longish hair (past my back bra strap) and long layers.

  • I have side swept bangs and I love them.  It took me about a month to "get used" to having them, since they did feel like they were in my way at first.  I've had them for two years now, though.  I have a high forehead, so I really need bangs.  If you're going to get them, you should just go all out and get them (not make them long) because the longer they are, the more they will be in your way.  Mine always get annoying to me, just before I'm due for another haircut (about every 6-8 wks).
  • I had the little bangs like you are describing.  I have heard it's called "baby Halo".  Where you hair staying in the growing stage while you are pregnant and breast feeding.  Then when you stop, the hair that would have normally fallen out...falls out - at the same time.  I hated that stage, but I can say...it was over in about 2 months.  It eventually mixed with my other bangs.  I do have side swooping bangs.  Here is a picture.  I have never mastered posting pictures...so here is the best I can do.  I am on the right with the dark hair (the dark hair is new for me too).

The bangs were something you have to get used to, but you do eventually.

  • Auburn-

Can you PIP the two inspiration pics you mentioned? I'm contemplating them too and would like to see those.

  • I have always had long hair and wanted something different..so I got the long side swipe bangs...I HATED them! They were always in my way and would fall out of a pony tail...drove me crazy...now they are grown out...and I am happy once again! haha I know some people who have them and love them...just not me...I love the way they look though!
  • These are some of my inspiration pics:

  • My haircut is very similar to that first pic of Nicole Richie you posted. I have those same side swept bangs and love them. I've had this same cut for years because I like the style so much. FWIW I have very dark, straight-as-a-stick hair.
  • I just got them - I have curly hair and even curly ish I love them! I wish I had a webcam so I cold post a pic.
  • i have them. i love them. i have a 5-head with a cowlick (is that even the word?) so without them i look ridiculous. my hair is short though. like right above my shoulders.
  • I have really fine, slightly wavy hair. I alternate between straight "regular" bangs and side-swept bangs. For some reason, when it's humid outside, my bangs won't lay straight and they side-sweep on their own.

To do the side-sweep right, seems like you have to have fairly thick, long bangs. I love the look of the Nicole Ritchie bangs, but that length is my pet peeve -- always poking me in the eyes.

  • Mine look like the Lauren Conrad pic, except the rest of my hair is not as long as hers and is layered.  I like my bangs b/c they will go back into a ponytail and I can tuck them behind my ear if they bug me.  Problem is, I'm always tucking them behind my ear. . .
